I've been practicing since 1995 & I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor & Marriage & Family Therapist. However, I am now only accepting individual clients 18+. It's clear to me that we can all struggle, even if we are successful in other areas of our lives. Life can be unpredictable & the stress & demands of everyday life, work & relationships can take its toll. As stressors build, you may find yourself struggling with anxiety, mood, eating, body image issues or turning to addictive behaviours. You may also find that unresolved grief or past trauma keeps seeping into your daily life & especially when you least want or expect it.

I have worked many years with people from all walks of life and have experienced first hand relationship trauma, challenging family dynamics and the effects of addiction.
Life can brings unexpected changes: Relationships come to an end; There may be Infidelity, failure, and disappointments. For those who value spirituality and faith there is a loss of hope. Alcohol and/or drug issues take control. If any of this resonates with you it may be a good time to consider counselling. I have a passion for people who struggle with chronic anxiety, aging gracefully, faith issues, addictions, depression, and relationship strife. I also have good understanding of the complicated world of blended families, those who struggle with work/ family balance, and men who struggle with gaming/porn addictions.

Are you successful in most areas of your life but alcohol or drugs are affecting your relationship, job or health? Maybe you don't require in-patient rehabilitation. Perhaps 12 step programs or time away from your job and family to attend private treatment aren't options. Addiction treatment is not a 'one-size-fits-all' solution. As an addiction counsellor and substance-use therapist, I utilize a 'coach-approach' to provide uniquely tailored programs based on individual needs and wants. Whether you are looking to cut back, take a break, quit completely or maybe you’re not even sure if you have a problem, there is an option for you.

Life can bring interesting challenges. Usually we can manage on our own, but sometimes having a trained professional to offer support and guidance helps to identify solutions and allows us to move forward. I am a registered psychologist trained in the areas of neuroscience, assessment, counselling, and community rehabilitation and disability studies. I also have training in school psychology and also have an in-depth background in neurological disease/injury, family mediation, conflict resolution, developmental/complex trauma, and mood disorders. I also provide therapy and/or education for parents, kids and extended family members who are experiencing separation and divorce.

I use a unique, multifaceted approach to counselling which includes Family Systems Theory, experiential techniques and transpersonal philosophy and various counselling modalities including Gestault and NLP.
At some point, we all hit a wall where self-help books and call-in therapy radio shows are no longer enough. Whether you are finding your way through grief over the loss of a loved one, experiencing a transition in your life, struggling in relationship or career, there is no reason why you have to go it alone. Believing a counselor must work on healing their own issues first, I have worked thru my own struggles in all of these areas. As a result I bring that learning to help many others.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) and EMDR allow clients to explore unconscious patterns or "parts" that may have protective roles, but which have become extreme and unhelpful, eg.
I treat trauma - childhood, shock (eg. accidents, medical) and relational (eg. betrayal, bullying) utilizing IFS and EMDR. These models are experiential, not "talk therapy". I also offer Clinical Supervision. I have additional training in treating those suffering and addiction, their family members and adult children of alcoholics. Often, people impacted by addiction - their own or someone else's - carry the heavy burdens of shame, anxiety, low self-esteem and other extremely painful legacies. If you are ready to dive deeply into the roots of your distress, IFS and EMDR may be a fit for you.

Family Therapy Counsellors
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
