Have you been experiencing feelings of sadness, fear, guilt or shame? Is your life being negatively impacted by stress, relationships problems, or self-destructive behaviors? If so, I can help. How we experience and respond to life’s challenges has a lot to do with how we perceive them and this is shaped by our past experiences. With a deeper understanding of (and compassion for) yourself and some tools, you will feel a sense of relief and strength to be able to deal with whatever has been troubling you. My goal is for you to feel seen, safe and heard on your journey.

I am a counsellor of 25 years, with a diverse background in anger management, addictions, domestic violence, emotional trauma, anxiety, and depression. I am passionate about helping individuals process their anger and emotions without the emotional outbursts and rage that can be detrimental to their relationships. I have always been passionate about connecting with people and learning from their experiences, which has shaped my dedication to mental health support. Before earning my Master’s Degree in Clinical Social Work, I served as a paid-on-call firefighter with my local rural fire department for nearly 8 years. This time gave me deep respect for the resilience and camaraderie that defines first responder culture. Recognizing the need for clinicians who truly understand this world, I merged my passions for firefighting and mental health to specialize in supporting first responders and frontline workers.

- Will open waitlist March 2025 - I believe one of the most courageous things you can do is begin to understand your own story. I remember what it feels like to be on your side of the couch, overwhelmed by the idea of sharing my most vulnerable stories. When we've hit (or passed) the point of burnout, or we have a stressful experience like a loss or traumatic event, it can be hard to imagine finding joy or fulfillment again. You deserve a space to discover your strengths, make sense of your experiences, and find a meaningful path forward.

How does cognitive processing therapy work?
A CPT therapist helps a client evaluate their thoughts about the trauma they experienced, focusing on maladaptive or self-blaming thoughts that can exacerbate symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, or depression. The therapist will work with a client to help them learn to challenge such thoughts and consider different perspectives. The therapist is also likely to ask a client to work on these techniques at home between meetings, such as writing an account of their trauma that can be read aloud during a future session.
What is cognitive processing therapy for PTSD?
Cognitive processing therapy (CPT) is a form of cognitive-behavioural therapy primarily used in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to treat individuals who experienced abuse or violence, who survived natural disasters, who were first responders to such incidents, or who otherwise experienced trauma.
How long does cognitive processing therapy last?
CPT is a short-term therapy. Whether conducted one-on-one or in a group, a complete set of CPT sessions typically includes 12 weekly sessions, along with tasks for clients to complete at home, although this can vary depending on a client’s needs or a therapist’s particular treatment plan. Sessions typically last 60 or 90 minutes.
How effective is cognitive processing therapy?
A large body of research supports the use of CPT to treat people experiencing PTSD, finding it to be effective among different age groups, either in one-on-one therapy sessions or in a group therapy environment. Research suggests that although the initial sessions may be difficult, clients tend to begin to feel positive progress after the first few sessions, and that the benefits tend to last well after the therapy ends.
