My practice is grounded in a person-centred approach, where I blend Solution-Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Somatic Therapy, and Mindfulness techniques to create a tailored experience for each individual.
I bring a unique depth of experience and empathy to my counselling practice, shaped by over 15 years of service as a full-time firefighter and a lifetime in the first responder community. Supporting first responders and their families has become a passion for me. In addition to my work as a firefighter, my background as a high-performance athlete guides my approach in counselling first responders, their families, and athletes of all ages. I use a strength-based, goal-oriented perspective to empower clients to leverage their own abilities and inner resources as they work toward meaningful goals.

I use somatic and trauma-informed approaches with DBT, ACT, CBT and parts work.
You may be feeling overwhelmed by emotions that seem too big to carry... anger, grief, shame, fear or just complete shut down, a feeling of numbness. Perhaps you’re struggling to break patterns in relationships, heal from trauma and break out of survival mode. You may be longing to feel safe in your body again, to trust yourself, or even reconnect with your faith after being hurt in religious/ spiritual settings. My clients are often deep feelers and are highly sensitive and they want to live from a place of authenticity, peace and alignment with their true self and possibly also with God, in a way that feels safe and loving.

I utilize Parts Work (drawn from IFS), OEI, Cognitive-Processing Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapies, and somatic techniques to improve emotional regulation.
Life can be challenging, and sometimes we need someone to lean on. I'm here to listen and support you in a non-judgemental way. Our main goal is to help you curate strong self-awareness so that we can explore how your current functioning is impacted by the patterns you've learned early in life. Sometimes these ingrained, automatic habits no longer serve us, so together we can start creating new responses that better fit your current self!

We primarily work from a parts and somatic perspective (IFS) to build a self-relationship that is grounded in acceptance and compassion.
Beyond Labels and expectations and discover you are enough as you are. This may not be what life has taught you. In fact, it is likely you feel discouraged, unworthy, and disconnected from your true self. Struggling in many ways to rise above these painful feelings. You are to be commended on your ability to "figure things out" on your own. However, The strategies you use to control your reactions and feelings aren't working. If you're noticing a repetitive pattern—the same dynamics, relationships, and struggles from your past continuing to replay there is no shame in reaching out for help. You don't have to carry the weight alone.

Many issues can effect each and every one of us at any point in our lives. Parent/teen conflict, abuse, trauma, depression, anxiety, addiction, family issues, and self-esteem are some of the concerns we may face. Dealing with these problems in the light of life's responsibilities can become that much more challenging. Problems have a way of making us forget about our strengths, survival skills, knowledge, and abilities. In my approach, I work collaboratively with individuals/couples/families to investigate the influence of the problem(s), decrease it's effects, and open up possibilities of lasting change.

Somatic Counsellors
How does somatic therapy work?
Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?
Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?
Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
