My practice is grounded in the science of Attachment Theory and its fundamental role in understanding how we are wired for connection. My passion and focus is in 1) helping couples find the loving, secure connection they long for with each other, and 2) helping individuals heal from trauma and anxiety. I am trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for Couples, which is the single most effective form of couple's therapy out there, bar none. I am certified in EMDR and trained in Attachment-Focused EMDR through the Parnell Institute. You can find more detailed information at my website: www.relationsense.com

You are important and your wellbeing matters! Maybe you find yourself challenged with aspects of life that seemed easier beofore, or have experienced an event or events that have led you to reevalute life and how you are coping with it's changes. I believe we live our lives in relationship - with others, with the world and ourselves. These relationships are ever evolving, leaving us sometimes feeling in limbo, dealing with uncertainty, or simply needing to make changes. Whatever brings you to this moment in life, know that there is always a way forward. Together, lets find a way for you to not just survive, but thrive!

Relational Trauma Therapist and Consultant. Does it seem that relationships have been a constant struggle rather than a refuge? Was your childhood filled with trying to be perfect to get attention or disconnecting from your needs and focusing on what other people need? Early experiences can leave you feeling unworthy, discouraged and disconnected. Now it is a daily struggle to feel ok and resist the self-criticism and self-doubt that leave you feeling less than others. You may have learned to disconnect from these painful feelings and try to "figure things out" on your own. Deep down, you know it is time to do something different.

It is perfectly normal to hit speed bumps or even complete road blocks in our lives. Whether big or small, counselling can help individuals feel connected and supported while they are experiencing and resolving challenges. In my practice, I focus on short-term goals such as immediate symptom relief, and long-term goals that explore more enduring patterns of thinking, feeling, and acting that often keep us stuck in our current challenges.

You may look like you’re holding it together, but inside you feel anxious, disconnected, reactive, or unsure of yourself. Maybe you overthink conversations, struggle to trust your feelings, feel responsible for others, or keep finding yourself in the same relationship patterns. I work with adults navigating relationships, emotional overwhelm, life transitions, self-worth, and the patterns that keep showing up in how they relate to themselves and others. My approach is attachment-informed, developmental, and rooted in awareness. Together, we slow things down and make sense of what is happening beneath the surface.

LGBTQ+ Counsellors
Do LGBTQ-affirmative therapists receive special training?
Yes. Many therapists who practice LGBTQ-affirmative therapy have completed specialised training, either during their degree programme or as continuing education, to learn the core principles of affirmative therapy and how to best support their LGBTQ clients; some have received certifications in LGBTQ-affirmative therapy. Prospective clients should inquire as to a clinician’s background and training to ensure a good fit.

Why might I want to see an LGBTQ-affirming or LGBTQ-friendly therapist?
Queer and gender-non-conforming individuals frequently experience bias and marginalisation in day-to-day life. Working with a therapist who understands these unique challenges, as well as accepts and affirms their identity, can help LGBTQ clients feel safe and supported during therapy—allowing them to better navigate their relationships, mental health, and anything else that they wish to explore during therapy. It is important to note that many therapists can be effective in their work with LGBTQ+ individuals, even in the absence of specific training or background knowledge. The most important component in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client, and this alliance can exist between individuals with very different backgrounds.

How can I find an LGBTQ-friendly therapist?
You may wish to inquire about a therapist’s expertise with your specific challenges or concerns—depression, for example, or relationship strife—as well as their past experiences treating LGBTQ+ clients. Prospective clients may also ask whether a therapist has obtained additional training and/or certification in LGBTQ-affirmative techniques.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with LGBTQ issues?
Prospective clients should feel empowered to directly ask therapists whether they have received training or been certified in LGBTQ-affirming therapy; competent therapists will be happy to explain their educational background and preferred approach(es) to help a client find the best match for them. Clients may also wish to ask how a therapist has treated clients with their particular challenges in the past and what they expect treatment to look like.

Are all the therapists listed in the LGBTQ directory themselves members of the LGBTQ community?
While therapists may choose to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity in their profiles, the LGBTQ directory features not only those who have shared this information but also those who assert specialised training or experience in providing support to queer individuals, couples or families.
