You may be feeling overwhelmed by emotions that seem too big to carry... anger, grief, shame, or fear that may trace back to painful experiences. Perhaps you’re struggling to break old patterns in relationships, heal from trauma, or break out of survival mode. You may be longing to feel safe in your body again, to trust yourself, or to reconnect with your faith after being hurt in religious settings. My clients are often deep feelers and have high standards for themselves, who want to live from a place of authenticity, peace, and alignment with their true self and possibly also with God, in a way that feels safe and loving.

You are important and what you have to say matters! Taking the first step to looking for counselling tells me your mental and emotional wellbeing matters to you. You are not willing to sit by and let challenges control you; instead, you are a fighter, a survivor, a resilient human being wanting better for yourself.  Working through challenges (be it trauma, depression, anxiety, relationship challenges, stress, or addiction, to name a few) you will be supported and encouraged in a non-pathologizing, anti-oppressive environment to create deep insight regarding the connections between past and present experiences.

I bring a unique depth of experience and empathy to my counselling practice, shaped by over 14 years of service as a full-time firefighter and a lifetime in the first responder community. Supporting first responders and their families has become a passion for me. In addition to my work as a firefighter, my background as a high-performance athlete guides my approach in counselling first responders, their families, and athletes of all ages. I use a strength-based, goal-oriented perspective to empower clients to leverage their own abilities and inner resources as they work toward meaningful goals.

You may feel overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, and uncertain, and are spending lots of time thinking, second guessing yourself, and searching for meaning. Perhaps you feel like you can't think anymore; that you are too depleted to go beyond your essential day-to-day tasks. You might be struggling to conceive and experiencing self-doubt, jealousy, and a lack of control. Or, perhaps you are pregnant or already a parent, and are feeling pulled along an emotional roller coaster where you're not in the driver's seat. You might remember a time when you felt more confident, clear, and connected, and are wondering how to get back there.

I am a Clinical Intern who started my journey towards counselling ten years ago working in perinatal mental health care. This has given me a unique perspective on ways to build strong families and manage the challenges of life transitions. In addition, I offer support for depression, anxiety, postpartum issues, and burnout. My time working in healthcare research and disability advocacy has also prompted me to attune to the needs of people with neurodivergence and other exceptionalities.

If your child or teen is struggling with anxiety, grief, or trauma, you may feel unsure how to best support them. Therapy can give your child a healing space to process their feelings, develop coping skills, and heal from trauma, while also giving you tools to feel more confident in guiding them. You may find yourself needing care, too. If you are a parent carrying the weight of your own anxiety, past trauma, or grief, I offer a compassionate space where your story is heard and your strengths are nurtured. Whether you’re seeking counselling for your child or yourself, we can work together toward greater wellbeing and resilience.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
