My special interests include living with the trait of high sensitivity, childhood, attachment, and family of origin issues, but I have found time and again that my effectiveness as a therapist is rooted in how well my client and I "click".
For over 30 years, emotional healing has been my life's work, and helping others my vocation. While I have worked with many people of all ages in a variety of settings and for virtually every issue imaginable, today I mainly work with mature adult women who want emotional freedom, no matter what. I am very conscientious about what I do - I want you to connect with the best counsellor for you. The (free) phone consultation I require prior to booking is geared to ensuring we are well-suited so you get the most out of your emotional and financial commitment to resolving your issue(s).

People who experience difficulties in their relationships have often been hurt in the past. If this happened early in life, they may not even be aware of it. I help individuals, couples and family members discover and heal old wounds from early trauma or past relationships. I offer a variety of therapeutic options so you can chose an approach that is comfortable for you. Each individual determines the goals, pace, and treatment options that are the best fit for them. My client-centred practise ensures that everyone is treated with respect, confidentiality, compassion and cultural sensitivity.

Yes, it IS possible to use the creative arts, even over video! Internal Family Systems are another great way to explore the inner landscape and bring it into balance.
I work with many kinds of clients. Kids, teens, and parents; couples and families; and people with a wide range of neuro-diversity as well as diversity in gender, sexuality and identity. Are you looking for acceptance and empathy along with encouragement to become your best self? Looking for strategies to explore your needs, strengths, resources and obstacles? I want to help you thrive in your world, with joy, confidence and self-acceptance.

After 10 years of working with women and their families as a midwife, I am pleased to work with women and families in a counselling capacity. My practice is accessible to new mothers and mothers-to-be in clinic, on Skype and in clients homes. I offer individual, group and family counselling. Have you been going to therapy for a while? Are you struggling with low mood, anxiety, pain, sexual disorders, or other symptoms, that you, or the medical system can't explain? Do you have complicated family dynamics, or require support in your relationship? I may be able to help. Having an intimate understanding of these issues, I offer a unique perspective on various concerns. Working as an emergency first responder and having been deployed to theatres of conflict has helped me to understand the complexity of trauma. I work with individuals, couples and families to help support the journey to inner strength.

My approach is tailored to the needs of each individual. I emphasize the importance of a strong, compassionate therapeutic relationship and work primarily from a trauma informed, client-centered model. I incorporate elements of emotion focused, narrative, dialectical behavioural, internal family systems, parts work, attachment, strengths/resiliency based, and somatic approaches. I primarily work from a process oriented place by working on issues brought up in the moment and spending time breaking down the beliefs, emotions, and behaviours that accompany each issue.

Life is immense. The range of experiences we encounter— the trials that we endure— are both collective and personal. While some of what touches us will inspire and empower, other things will block and hinder. Finding our way through difficult times often requires us to forge a new and unfamiliar path; to cultivate our capacity to meet the unknown with curiosity, creativity, and compassion. The way I work creates change as a felt, lived experience rather than just a cognitive one. This allows for embodied learning, which in turn, encourages a greater potential for sustainable change and stability.

Family Therapy Counsellors

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
