I love being a therapist. I also love home organization. My two loves have resulted in two parts to my practice: both traditional therapy, and my own "Space of Mind" process that marries psychotherapy and decluttering. Looking to traditional therapy, I am passionate about working with both individuals and couples as they navigate life's transitions and feelings of stuckness. Anxiety, depression, communication and conflict struggles, self-esteem, grief and loss, parenting and self-care are among many of the topics given space in my therapy room.

Sorry, but I am not accepting new clients at this time. Life is really challenging. You may lie awake at night, wondering how to handle all the pressures upon you. Your emotions swing wildly -- usually more down than up. Tears surge at odd times, and you feel suffocated by the heaviness in your chest. Or, you're experiencing problems in a relationship: with your spouse, your boss, or someone else whom you're close to. The strife and negative feelings that surround your relationship problems are draining you. You can't fix things on your own and you know you need help.

As a counsellor I hope to model grace, courage, and genuineness to my clients while I come along side them, and act as a resource for positive change in their lives. I have a warm, engaging, and professional demeanour that helps clients feel at ease, supported, and able to embrace the delicate balance between risk, hope, and trust. Most importantly, I want my clients to know that it is an absolute privilege that they invite me into their lives to share on their journey with them. This may include helping my clients with concerns relating to their personal growth, wellness, relationships, mental health, and/or psychological distress.

Something happened to you: a trauma, a broken relationship, a difficult childhood. Maybe you are telling yourself that you “should be over it by now” or “it happened so long ago". You have big reactions that you don’t understand. All the things you usually have access to, like your logic and your reasoning, seem to go away in that moment, and all you know is that something doesn’t feel right. Maybe these big reactions feel like anxiety, depression, being highly self critical or maybe on the outside everything seems fine, but on the inside you not ok. The truth is that there is no timeline for how events impact us.

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?
When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.
What are the signs of low self-esteem?
Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.
What causes low self-esteem?
Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.
How can therapy improve self-esteem?
Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
