*Accepting new clients for on-line sessions* Are you finding it hard to cope? Has life turned out different than what you planned? In my sessions we look inward, to see what is preventing you from being your truest self. Is there guilt, shame, anger? Is there depression and anxiety? Together we find the way for you to grow, to emerge stronger and more peaceful. When faced with adversity, we often avoid the problem in a myriad of ways including drinking, eating, obsessively exercising or other addictions. I help clients identify therapy goals, work on interpersonal and intrapersonal issues, and become emotionally resilient.

Many of the clients I work with are feeling "stuck" and are looking for support to move towards their goals. Feeling stuck often coincides with feelings of depression and anxiety. My clients and I work together to develop healthy coping strategies and to achieve satisfaction in their daily lives. My therapeutic work is grounded in humanistic and constructivist theories, meaning I believe the relationship between the client and the therapist is essential for fostering change and growth. I am a Registered Psychologist with the College of Psychologists of BC and have over 15 years of training and experience in psychotherapy.

10-25% of women who birth or adopt a child develop postpartum depression or anxiety in the first three years of their child's life.
After 10 years of working with women and their families as a midwife, I am pleased to work with women and families in a counselling capacity. My practice is accessible to new mothers and mothers-to-be in clinic, on Skype and in clients homes. I offer individual, group and family counselling. After a practicum with CYMH I am passionate about working with children and often treat the family as an interconnected system.

Many of my clients are dealing with issues that may stem from depression and anxiety.
Anxiety and depression are common issues in my practice and they can be the underlying condition in many situations. They can affect relationships, parenting, work performance, family dynamics to name a few. Therapy can assist with problem solving and gaining a better understanding of the behaviours that are causing difficulties in life. Some of my work involves life coaching and I am also a divorce coach. I offer expertise and support in the overwhelming process of separation and the difficulties involved in supporting children through divorce and separation.

Providing a felt sense of ease and presence, attuned listening and a container for deep work are my offerings to you. The symptoms we experience (like anxiety and depression ) are often due to unresolved traumatic stress in the body. By slowly and gently tracking sensation, movement impulses and images we learn to listen to what our body is telling us, and we return to who we truly are. We begin by exploring what is and is not working in your daily life and relationships, and what you are noticing in your body, thoughts, and feelings.

A life and mind out of balance create stress, worry, anxiety, overthinking, indecision, depression , confusion, self-doubt and self-loathing. This can feel like an endless cycle of suffering, stagnation, or pain that is lasting "too long." Fulfillment and meaning in life arise when we learn to reconcile our thoughts with our experience, when we stop doing and simply be. Many find that sitting and talking in therapy help to an extent, but when we engage our felt sense and physical being, we begin to deeply know and develop trust in ourselves and in our ability to heal, cope and feel well. Art can offer the physical tools for healing.

When we feel anxious, depressed , exhausted, isolated, lonely, lost or stuck for too long, we feel like we are caught in a web of pain. In order to self medicate we may be drawn to addictive substances or behaviors to provide temporary relief. This might help in the short term but can have negative consequences if our addictive tendencies become destructive habits. At the root of our psychological pain are traumatic experiences from the past or negative attitudes toward our self. At our core we often have limiting or negative beliefs that keep us caught in a web of destructive habits. To heal, these beliefs need to be transformed.

The teen years are a time of exponential growth and development. Despite the energetic expansiveness of this developmental stage, some teens struggle with overwhelming fears, confusion, or anxiety and depression . The stress and pressure of personal circumstances can feel like it is a lot to handle. As caring bystanders, we may witness a youth retreat into themselves and become difficult to reach. What is the answer? Talking with an experienced counsellor can make a difference.

Depression Counsellors
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy by depression counsellors in Campbell River. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
