I hold a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology and I am currently employed by school district 72 as a school counsellor. I am incredibly grateful to live in a beautiful costal community and honoured to have the opportunity to practice counselling on Vancouver Island.

I assist adults who want support in healing and transforming their psychological symptoms.
When we feel anxious, depressed, exhausted, isolated, lonely, lost or stuck for too long, it feels like we are caught in a web of pain. In order to ease the pain we may be drawn to addictive substances or behaviors to provide temporary relief. This might help in the short term but can have negative consequences if our addictive tendencies become destructive habits. At the root of our psychological pain are traumatic experiences from the past or negative attitudes toward our self. At our core we often have limiting or negative beliefs that keep us caught in a web of destructive habits. To heal, these beliefs need to be transformed.

Thanks for looking to me as your prospective psychotherapist. I wish it were otherwise, but suffering is intrinsic to life. However, adversity can deepen our resolve to live more consciously. What unexamined core beliefs have you living below your potential? Together, we'll make sense of 'protective' defenses that are sabotaging your deepest aspirations. We'll develop strategies and insights against overwhelm and discouragement. Instead of relying upon outer authority, we will access your innate wisdom. I'll support you in taking decisive action to live your singular life with greater courage, purpose and meaning.

Many of the clients I work with are feeling "stuck" and are looking for support to move towards their goals. Feeling stuck often coincides with feelings of depression and anxiety. My clients and I work together to develop healthy coping strategies and to achieve satisfaction in their daily lives. My therapeutic work is grounded in humanistic and constructivist theories, meaning I believe the relationship between the client and the therapist is essential for fostering change and growth. I am a Registered Psychologist with the College of Psychologists of BC and have over 15 years of training and experience in psychotherapy.

Curiosity about the human experience is what motivates my work as a therapist, and I see healing as a creative and nonlinear process that happens through deepening one's awareness of their lived experience. No matter what you've been through or are actively going through, we can make space together to slow down, connect, process, and build self-compassion and curiosity. My hope is that you can cultivate meaning and grow stronger in your relationship with yourself, others, and the world around you.

A life and mind out of balance create stress, worry, anxiety, overthinking, indecision, depression, confusion, self-doubt and self-loathing. This can feel like an endless cycle of suffering, stagnation, or pain that is lasting "too long." Fulfillment and meaning in life arise when we learn to reconcile our thoughts with our experience, when we stop doing and simply be. Many find that sitting and talking in therapy help to an extent, but when we engage our felt sense and physical being, we begin to deeply know and develop trust in ourselves and in our ability to heal, cope and feel well. Art can offer the physical tools for healing.

I work mostly with women, children and families so that they can move forward with their lives. Healing occurs when we address the whole person - mind, spirit, body and emotions - because these elements don't work in isolation. My graduate training focused on family systems work, and to that I have added numerous post-graduate trainings that enrich my practice, and thus my ability to help you. I have also worked extensively in the First Nations community for over 20 years in the Cowichan Valley and the North Island - I’m an approved FNHA counsellor.

How can I find a therapist in Campbell River?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or province where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

How much does therapy cost?

Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $3200 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
