Are you looking for someone to lean on and share without judgment? My approach to therapy is listening with an open heart. There was a time I did not speak up and if I did, I thought people would be critical of me. I was extremely self-conscious, it took a crisis in my life to reach out for help. I am here today to tell you that this experience shifted my life tremendously. The crisis was an end of a relationship and a suicide in my family. I ended up going back to school after over 20’s years in the same job and I am a counsellor today. Choosing the right counsellor is important and this relationship should feel connective.

Currently I am available for online or in-person play therapy sessions.
Through a compassionate and authentic approach, I support folks with discovering their own brilliant wisdom on their healing journey. I love working with kids (3+), youth, and adults to support their goals through movement and play. Many children who come into the playroom are seeking support with emotional regulation and resilience building. Through parent consultations I will support your learning and understanding of the nervous system to foster depth in your relationship with your child. I provide counselling from a collaborative, trauma informed, and anti-oppressive lens.

You’ve been trying to keep it all together — showing up for everyone, staying strong, holding in the emotions, keeping quiet — but deep down, you’re lonely, hurt, and lost. You feel it at night when everything goes quiet. You feel it in your body, in your chest, in your thoughts that keep looping. You’re exhausted. And a part of you knows… something needs to change. This is where healing begins.

Effective therapy is transformational—and transformation is possible, no matter where you begin. My practice focuses on the treatment of anxiety, panic attacks, depression, chronic pain, grief and trauma (both acute and cumulative). Psychotherapy is not about bulldozing through resistance. Meaningful therapy is a balancing act: we must face what is most difficult while also ensuring adequate support and safety. Without engaging deeper psychological patterns, defences, and resistances, therapy risks becoming focused solely on validation, comfort, and reassurance.

I offer in-person therapy in our office in Burnaby or online/phone session in the comfort of your personal space.
Going through separation and divorce is a rough process. The yelling, the tears or the fights that happen in the house is keeping you up at night and/or make you worry about your future. It is already difficult to discuss what belongs to who at this point, not to mention there are children involved. You want your children to be ok, but not sure how. Things that your partner said or did in the past seem to be stuck in your head and make you angry or sad. You want peace, you want no conflict and a way out of this emotional disaster. Talk to me, I am here to listen.

In-person (Saturdays) in Burnaby & online across BC.
Hi! I'm Cory (he/him). As a counsellor, I embrace diversity and strive to provide culturally sensitive care to individuals from diverse backgrounds. I love working with the queer community, fellow consensually non-monogamous folks, and adults navigating (or considering the possibility of) an ADHD/neurodiversity diagnosis. I work with issues relating to identity, self-image and self-worth, depression and anxiety, grief and loss, life transitions, and suicidality and self-harm. Even if you don't have words to describe the precise nature of your distress, we can take it slow and explore together at a pace that's comfortable for you.

FAQ - About In Person Therapy
What are the benefits of in-person therapy?
In-person therapy offers several benefits that some people find highly valuable for their mental health treatment. Being present in the same room as your therapist can create a stronger sense of connection and allow for more nuanced communication through body language. Some people may also find it easier to focus in therapy when they are in a dedicated space and away from potential distractions related to home or work; attending an in-person session provides a clear boundary between therapy time and the rest of your life. For certain therapeutic approaches, such as Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), exposure therapy, or somatic therapy, being in person may be particularly important, as these therapies benefit from the therapist being able to observe and respond to a client’s physical cues effectively. Additionally, some individuals simply feel more comfortable discussing sensitive or painful topics when they are face-to-face with their therapist rather than on a screen.

When should I choose in-person therapy over online therapy?
In-person therapy may be a better choice when you need a structured therapeutic environment separate from your daily life, when you find it difficult to focus or feel comfortable in an online setting, or when privacy at home is a concern. It may also be more appropriate if you are dealing with severe mental health symptoms that require close monitoring or if your therapy involves approaches that rely heavily on observing physical cues. On the other hand, if convenience, scheduling flexibility, or access to specialists outside your immediate area are priorities, online therapy may be a better fit. Many therapists offer both options, so you can also discuss with a provider which format might work best for your specific situation.

How do I find an in-person therapist?
You can use Psychology Today's therapist directory to find an in-person therapist in your area. You can search by location, insurance accepted, specialty areas, therapeutic approaches, and other criteria to narrow down providers who meet your needs. Each therapist profile includes information about their credentials, areas of expertise, and whether they offer in-person sessions. Once you have identified potential therapists, you can contact them directly through the directory to schedule an initial consultation and determine whether they are a good fit before committing to ongoing treatment. When reaching out, it can be helpful to confirm their availability for in-person appointments, their office location, and whether they accept your insurance.
