Art Therapy in Burnaby, BC
I am passionate about EMDR, art therapy, play therapy, and other trauma-informed practices because of their potential to support the transformation and healing of both ourselves and our communities.
I welcome diverse clients of all cultures, genders, and sexual orientations. I appreciate that we all come with unique stories and histories, and I think it is important to recognize and celebrate how these shape the way that we experience the world. I feel honoured and privileged to walk alongside my resilient clients in their personal healing journeys. I work with many clients who feel like they are not themselves. My clients often describe "knowing" one thing to be reality but "feeling" like something else is true. Through EMDR, I can help support this integration between mind and body so you can meet your goals.

My ideal clients are thoughtful, self-aware individuals who feel stuck despite their best efforts to move forward. They may be navigating anxiety, burnout, relationship challenges, or major life transitions, and often come in feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure of themselves. Many are used to “holding it all together” on the outside while struggling internally. What brings them here is a desire for something deeper than quick fixes—they want clarity, relief, and a more meaningful connection to themselves and others.

Now is the time to begin — even the smallest step can spark meaningful change.
Life can sometimes feel heavier than expected. You might find yourself not quite feeling like yourself — your thoughts may be scattered, your emotions more intense, or your relationships more strained. Whether it’s anxiety, parenting stress, or relationship struggles, these challenges can feel isolating. And if you're an immigrant, navigating cultural differences can also be emotionally draining at times.

My journey with art therapy began when I utilized art in my own personal healing route, after I had undergone a life-altering motor vehicle accident.
My approach to art therapy is one that is person-centred, and focuses on the individual as a whole; their uniqueness, personal values, beliefs and differences. As a compassionate facilitator I will meet people where they are. By combining the creative process of image making, along with psychotherapy, I will help facilitate the understanding of “self”.

I specialize in Art Therapy, which helps access feelings and insights that aren’t always reachable through talk therapy alone.
You often find yourself doubting your decisions and putting so much energy into your relationships that you end up feeling drained or burnt out. It’s exhausting to care so deeply while worrying how others see you. Maybe you notice your body tightening with stress, or you start avoiding tasks that feel too overwhelming. If you’re tired of feeling stuck and ready for change, I can help you move beyond perfectionism and reconnect with a sense of calm, confidence, and self-compassion.

Curious about my pottery- or art-based therapy approach?
If you’ve found your way here, something in you is asking for change — or at least a pause. In my Burnaby studio, or online, I offer a space to slow down, come back to yourself, and explore what’s happening beneath the surface through conversation, creative work, and clay. I believe we all want to feel better and live fully, and that this capacity already exists within us. As a therapist, clay artist, immigrant, and a mother, I support you in reconnecting with that inner resource through counselling, parts work, and creative tools, learning to meet the “full catastrophe of living” (Jon Kabat-Zinn) with gentle guidance and care.

Art Therapy Counsellors
How does art therapy work?
The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.
Does art therapy help with trauma?
Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.
How long does art therapy last?
The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.
What are the limitations of art therapy?
Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
