I am a Halifax-based counsellor, psychotherapist, and creative arts therapist with a background in mindfulness, body-based, and trauma-oriented modalities. I believe that to struggle is a fundamental part of human experience. As humans are relational beings, we need to be witnessed, supported and deeply heard in order to process and expand beyond our grief and our pain. We all have the innate capacity for healing. With the right space to hold and befriend our difficult memories and emotions, our minds and bodies learn that there can be safety, freedom, and possibility in our lives.

Do you remember when you were learning how to ride a bike? Undoubtedly, the process of learning was through trial, error, and perhaps guidance from a caregiver. It’s a common misconception that a therapist’s role is to simply give advice. That is not the case. My role in our therapeutic relationship is to guide you through the process – just like learning to ride a bike for the first time. It takes effort, time, and perhaps some discomfort…But the “aha” moment of finding balance brings a sense of freedom and independence.

Life is filled with struggles and challenges and they can seem difficult to overcome or even meet. Counselling helps people recognise the strengths that they already have to not only address life's challenges, but come out the other side stronger.

We forget sometimes, don't we? Who and what we are. Overall, my practice is existentially based on supporting you in the Remembering of who you really are, and reminding you to return home to Self, over and over again. This intentional process of "unlearning" everything that is not You creates the space and freedom for you to anchor into your truth and authenticity. My viewpoint of wellness is holistic, so I invite and encourage the curiosity and exploration of mind, body and spirit.

Life can feel like a lot sometimes—whether it’s anxiety, burnout, or a major transition, finding balance isn’t always easy. Maybe you’re managing high-pressure demands, wrestling with self-doubt, or navigating the emotional highs and lows of perinatal or reproductive mental health. You’re looking for a space where you can feel supported, understood, and equipped with the right tools to move forward in a way that feels true to you. I’m Erin, a therapist at Risework Therapy. My approach is collaborative and non-judgmental, with influences from trauma-informed, and strength-based practices.

Do you feel like you’ve lost yourself under the weight of responsibilities? You hold everything together for everyone else, but inside you feel exhausted, disconnected, or unsure of who you are now. Maybe you’re caught in cycles of overthinking, self-doubt, or people-pleasing that keep you from living in a way that truly feels like you. Despite all the inner work you’ve already done, something still seems to hold you back from creating a life that speaks to your heart.

My ideal clients range in age from adolescents through adulthood, including couples and families. They may have a past history of trauma or grief, or perhaps they are presently struggling with symptoms of ADHD, life changes, or a breakdown of a key relationship. They may be feeling completely overwhelmed and unsure where to go next. They will be open to trying new ideas to help them on the path to feeling better, but will not be worried about talking to me when certain strategies that do not work for them, as they will know it is best that we use techniques that they are comfortable with and will use.

Spidle Counselling believes in working from a client centered approach. Wherever you are in your journey, I'll meet you and help you decided the best path of recovery for you. Many people go through daily life feeling unfulfilled and overwhelmed with their circumstances. There are usually valid reasons for this but it's sometimes hard to recognize what they are. My ideal client is at the bottom of their “to do” list. They are overworked and pushing themselves beyond capacity. They are likely suffering from symptoms of burnout, stress, anxiety and/or depression. These clients often struggle to understand their own needs because they have neglected themselves, and their mental health for far too long.

Reaching out takes courage. I am a Certified Meditation and Imagery Specialist from the Huntington Meditation and Imagery Center. I teach the skillfull use of imagination. You will learn to replace fear through relaxing meditaton exercises and dialogue by stimulating this innate part of your being. I listen. I guide. I support. You will feel empowered. The words "you have cancer" can fill us with fear images. During radiation, I recalled, and re-imagined days at the beach. Experience a part of your nature which always brings peace, inspiration and courage. Learn to befriend anxiety as a message that you are alive and ready to act.
