No Waitlist! Accepting New Clients: Are you feeling stuck, anxious, overwhelmed, or hopeless? Maybe you feel like your confidence is down, your self-esteem is low, and you are having a hard time finding motivation to do anything at all - everything feels like a chore. Your family never talked about emotions, and now you're either overwhelmed by yours, or feeling numb to it all. You know there must be more to life than this, but you don't know what you're doing wrong. You know you need better communication skills and boundaries. You know you need to learn to "love yourself", but you don't know how to actually DO that.

I use psychodynamic and attachment-based therapy to help you break the patterns and incorporate cognitive behavioural and mindfulness therapy to help create the changes needed to maintain the new version of yourself.
Do you feel consumed by your emotions? Are you experiencing low mood, feelings of anxiety, depression or hopelessness? Are you struggling in your relationships? Do you find yourself stuck in the same re-ocurring, negative cycles? You do not have to navigate through this alone. Therapy can help you manage your emotions, develop healthy relationships and recognize the "why" behind what you do and how you feel. I specialize in helping adults and teenagers who are struggling with anxiety and depression, increase their self-esteem and self-worth and create healthier relationships.

I always approach my clients in with an anti-oppressive, trauma-informed, harm reduction framework. What does that mean? It means that I will always ask "what happened to you?" instead of asking "what's wrong with you?". It also means that I will always respect you as the expert in your own life. Finally, it means that I believe that everyone does their very best to survive and thrive each day–even on the days that we can't see any hope. I am here to be with you, even through the darkest of days, and help you find inspiration and hope within yourself.

With over 10 years of strength and mindset coaching, I have come to see the value of combining the training of the mind and body. My approach as a therapist evolves from this, appreciating the uniqueness of each individual. As an athlete, I am fascinated by what we can do and how we can create our own story and journey. Providing culturally sensitive and anti-oppressive therapy is one of the key focuses of my practice. I have had a culturally rich upbringing that encouraged and fostered multiculturalism throughout my life and has furthered my curiosity and appreciation for diversity and inclusiveness.

Now Accepting New Clients! You're a highly sensitive, empathic mom. You feel like your nervous system is stuck in fight-or-flight as you try to regulate your emotions and "keep it together", until you finally snap and end up yelling - at your kids, your partner, the poor girl in the checkout line. Then, the guilt kicks in. You wanted to be a better parent to your kids - break that generational trauma. And now, you worry you're messing that up too. Your inner critic whispers "what's wrong with you?" You know you need better boundaries. You know you need to stop the people pleasing and self-sabotage. You just don't know how to do it.

With compassion and warmth, I support my clients in their process of healing, breaking cycles and building a healthier sense of self. I also provide specialized support in women’s issues including pregnancy and infant loss, and maternal perinatal/postpartum mental health.

Attachment-based Counsellors

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
