Life transitions and new beginnings can be both exciting and overwhelming. Perhaps you are starting at a new school or job, beginning a new relationship, surviving a loss, or experiencing a major life event such as transitioning to university, becoming a parent, or working with a new diagnosis. Life transitions can cause a range of emotions – we can feel intensely vulnerable, anxious, low and depressed, and fearful. Sometimes we feel stuck, alone, and unsure how to cope with difficult thoughts and feelings. I am here to provide support, insight, and strategies to help adolescents (12+) and young adults navigate life’s challenges.

These are strange times in which we have found ourselves. Trying to reconnect and re-engage in our "new" world can be overwhelming and exhausting. What were once little worries are now becoming cycling thoughts with no end. We tell ourselves that it's easier to stay on the couch than it is to venture out, call a friend, start that project, or discover a new interest. Perhaps you feel torn? Part of you knows what it wants to see happen in your life and knows what to do to get you there, but another part seems so intent on convincing you that you don't have the motivation or strength to change; you feel so stuck. I know ways to help.

Not Accepting New Clients Until May 2024. Need a therapist that can understand your identity, beliefs, culture or the lived experience that makes it that much more challenging to deal with your mental health? Being a person of colour, a person of faith, a first-generation professional, a single-parent, a step-parent or an intersectionality of multiple identities can make it difficult to address issues of anxiety and depression with someone who's never been in your shoes. You want your therapy session to address your mental health issue, but you want the therapist to have a good grasp of the context in which these issues arise.

Attachment-based Counsellors
Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.
What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.
How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.
Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
