Life can be filled with hard, confusing, and painful moments. The compassion you so quickly and freely give to others can feel impossible to give to yourself. I recognize the challenges of everyday life can be complex and overwhelming, and that it can feel easier to give up than to find a way through. But I'm glad you're here.

My philosophy is that the past builds our being through the experiences we had and the lessons we learned. These experiences help to shape our sense of meaning and personal fulfilment through our journey. Therefore, I believe that it is important to explore the past and see how it shapes our experience in relation to ourselves and others. I incorporate this perspective in my work with clients and help to emphasize the power of choice, explore unmet needs and help to explore important areas for boundary setting.

I accompany clients from a place of compassion, creativity, warmth, and humour as they move from the wounds of interpersonal, systemic, and intergenerational trauma (e.g., neglect, identity-based violence, childhood or intimate partner violence, premature death) towards fulfilling lives rooted in posttraumatic growth. In addition to working with clients who have experienced trauma and its related effects, I also work with clients who identify as experiencing stress (including anxiety disorders), sadness or depression, persistent guilt and shame, life transitions, grief, and existential questions related to life purpose and identity.

Help that FEELS-LIKE A "DATE" - We get it - You don't only need to know 'relationship skills' you need your partner to know & use them too! ...when they are triggered & angry. (Dang, that's a tall order). We can help, even if you come alone. You or your partner have probably been afraid that asking for help could make things feel worse, or feel "real". The truth is, UNLESS you both learn to support each other in conflict, things do get worse, but you don't need to suffer for 6 YEARS like the average couple does. Choose to get unstuck today, just message Kat-at-Loved-Well.com curious about first steps. We really want to help.

My main area of focus is helping eliminate abuse in interpersonal relationships, from as seemingly "light" as bickering to more escalated confrontations. I've worked with perpetrators (males and females) of domestic violence for nine years, helping people to re-establish healthier relationships with partners and family members again. Much of this is developing communication and empathy skills, all in the context of understanding yourself better and, often, the early life experiences you've had that have brought you to this point.

I recognize that dealing with individual problems is not a systematic process and that it can lead to certain difficulties, but healing from a past or present malaise is a bit like writing a book: you have to write a few drafts at each stage before you're satisfied with your work. I look forward to meeting you and accompanying you on your healing journey.

As humans, growth is our birthright. It guides our everyday choices and interactions and ultimately leads us to live in ways that feel peaceful, free, and aligned with our values. But it's really hard to grow when we're overwhelmed or in "survival mode." If you're tired of just going through the motions - feeling empty, numb, disconnected, or out of control - I would be honoured to partner with you on your journey back to yourself, whether that includes working through things that happened in the past or exploring the path forward.

Communicating with your partner is hard. You replay arguments over and over. You feel criticized by your partner and do not feel heard. The idea of voicing your needs feels overwhelming and frustrating. As time has passed, talking to your partner has become minimal. There is less sharing of your feelings due to feelings of disappointment of not being heard. Your partner and you feel disconnected and lack communication. You are exhausted at working so hard to have a genuine relationship and it feels like nothing is working. What you want is to feel you can confide in your partner, feel loved, feel heard and supported.

I take an integrative approach and draw from attachment-based modalities, Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), narrative therapy, and relational therapy.
I work from an approach grounded in self-compassion and the understanding that difficult times are not a sign of personal failure. I believe that healing requires unlearning the parts of ourselves and our experiences that keep us burdened in favour of kinder ways of being.

Hi There! I'm a registered social worker & psychotherapist with KB & Associates, providing psychotherapy online all across Ontario. I have 13+ years of experience supporting people in reaching their version of a balanced and happy life. I believe that the most important part of therapy is that those I meet with feel a genuine sense of care and compassion. This is why I meet clients with a very relaxed, friendly and adaptable approach. Work with clients is always trauma informed, client-centered and client-directed. Put simply, you tell me where you want to go on this journey called ‘therapy’ and I’ll work with you to get there.

Attachment-based Counsellors

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
