Over the course of my education, I have had the honor to work with a range of individuals and couples through an attachment-based and trauma-informed framework.
I believe true healing comes from being heard, being known, and being seen; it is my deepest desire and privilege to come alongside another in this process. My name is Angela Zhou and I am currently an intern at Wishing Wells Counselling (located in Vancouver, British Columbia), completing my Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Trinity Western University. I provide counselling to individuals, couples, and families of all ages.

Jane is a Registered Clinical Counsellor, with a masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. Her therapeutic foundation is an attachment-based approach, which says we are created for connection—with ourselves, with others, and with the world around us. These relationships are vital to our existence and can be both our greatest strengths and challenges in life. Her clinical work utilizes her training in emotion-focused individual and couple therapy (EFT/EFIT), with an incorporation of techniques from cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT). She offers sessions in both English and Korean.

I work with folks that are struggling with the effects of chronic stress, loss, identity, and childhood attachment trauma. Humans have a great ability to form patterns of behaviours and beliefs to try and cope with the intensity of adversity. When we outgrow these patterns, they can become the sources of anxiety or distress. I specialize in navigating these inner landscapes with clients so they can connect with what and how they want their lives to look like. My approach to healing invites the complexity of being a human so people can bring their whole authentic self forward.

Our approach is attachment-based, trauma-informed/sensitive, neuroscience/evidence-based with a focus on insight (emotion and cognitive awareness and shifts) and behavioural changes.
Our team aims to help you create and discover a life worth living for and have fulfilling relationships with yourself and with others. Living from a place of fear/anger/resentment right now might be impacting how you see the world every single day. It may also affect your relationships with your family members, partners, and/or children (young and adults), friends, even coworkers, and you need help to make sense of it all. Every day, you may experience conflict, lack of connection, fear of something, or other challenges that gets in the way of you finding that sense of belonging and ownership over your life.

I take an attachment-based lens to help understand how your experiences have shaped you, pulling from various experiential modalities to personalize your experience.
While working with me, you’ll find that I take a gentle yet direct angle to help you move at your pace while giving an encouraging push to keep you on your path to healing and wholeness. I take a special focus in exploring how your past experiences impact your current life in a nonjudgmental and compassionate way. This often looks like examining how your trauma (big or small, it's all valid!) is still carried today. I aim to help you find the safety to let go of your burdens and find new ways that your system can work for you, based on the here and now instead of the past, through processing and integration of new patterns.

I practice from a relational, attachment-based perspective and intentionally incorporate therapeutic approaches that support my clients as they navigate life’s challenges and work towards achieving their goals.
There is nothing more beautiful to me than the rawness of the human spirit. No matter who we are, where we are from or where we go next, we carry narratives about ourselves that impact our experiences and the way we show up in the world. Humans are social beings, which means that the condition of our relationships directly influences our quality of life & overall wellness. However, many of us were never taught the importance of nurturing a strong and healthy relationship with the self, first. Without this relationship, we may be left wondering who we are, what matters most, and how to let go of what no longer serves us.

I work from an attachment-based, values perspective using a trauma and culturally sensitive approach.
Are you finding that you feel stuck in the same negative thought patterns, or are struggling in your relationships? Is your lack of motivation or anxiety and depression spilling over in your day-to-day routine. Have you experienced a recent loss and are feeling lonely and hopelessness? These difficult emotions can be challenging to deal with daily and even harder to figure out the first step to a solution. I work with co-parents, couples, adults, adolescents, and children who are feeling overwhelmed in their daily life. Together we create goals by focusing on values and connection and by moving towards flexibility and acceptance.

Welcome! I'm a registered social worker offering online psychotherapy across BC and Ontario. Specializing in trauma-focused therapy, I provide a supportive space for BIPOC, Queer, and Neurodiverse folks, but my door is open to all who connect with my values. My approach acknowledges the profound impacts of trauma and systemic injustice, while also valuing the richness and complexity of our experiences that exist alongside suffering. I aim to nurture a space where we address the pain of trauma and oppression, and actively reclaim the immense potential for joy, pleasure, beauty, and fulfillment in your life.

My work is person-centred and holistic, grounded in an attachment-based framework supported by various therapeutic modalities such as experiential work, EMDR, narrative, internal family systems, DBT, and mindfulness.
When it comes to healing and/or pushing through challenges in life, it is normal to wish for someone to walk alongside you. My approach is guided by the understanding that we, as people, are a walking mosaic of our lived experiences as well as the experiences we did not receive. Whether your area of concern be surrounding mental health challenges, exploring the many parts of your identity that make you who you are, processing traumas, religious deconstruction, or learning new personal skills, I will join you on your journey towards clarity, understanding, and moving forward.

Are things feeling like a lot right now? It's tough out there. Whether you're struggling in your relationships, wondering what the heck a boundary is and how to create them, needing ways to cope with a really intense world, or wanting to trace a frustrating pattern and find new ways forward, you deserve support. I work with folks who are feeling stuck or overwhelmed to build resilience and choice. Using a somatic, attachment-based approach, I aim to create a space of care and acceptance for folks to name and feel feelings, map out unhelpful patterns, and practice new ways of navigating life’s challenges.

Hello, my name is Rina. I am passionate about helping empower individuals to discover who they are and the resources they possess within themselves. We can all become stuck in old patterns that no longer serve who we are today. The first step is the courage to seek help to change what is not working. I am here to listen to what you have to say so that we can both explore options to get you unstuck. This is your session where you will have complete confidentiality, feel safe, comfortable and heard. I offer sliding scale for those who have no extended benefits, are low-income, seniors, students or new immigrants.

Welcome! My name is Lilian and I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with a Master of Counselling Psychology (MCP). As long as I can remember, I have felt drawn to supporting others. As a first-generation immigrant from China, I often struggled with navigating cultural stigma towards mental health, while also finding language and compassion for my experiences. I’m also deeply familiar with the challenges of navigating personal identity and values in today’s complex landscape of societal, political, and religious structures. I truly believe that with the right fit counselling can be incredibly healing.

You are asking the big existential questions. Why am I here? What is the purpose of my life? Perhaps you keep looking to self-help books and always taking the next seminar or online course - always looking for the answers outside yourself. You want to feel connected to yourself, your loved ones, and the world around you, yet you feel like you don't belong. You feel loss and grief and are searching for purpose but are living with depression and anxiety and questioning your self-worth.

It is human to struggle, we all have our ups and downs and being isolated in our emotional experience can just make it worse. Most emotions and behaviour makes sense in context. However, when left on our own to try to piece together our challenges, we can find ourselves plagued with self doubt and often feel lost. Therapy can help you see your situation objectively, accept even the imperfect parts of yourself, and work to use these parts as a roadmap into better health and well-being. We are not always able to control what life throws our way, but with help, we can transform these experiences into personal growth and wisdom.

Attachment-based Counsellors

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
