Our approach is attachment-based, trauma-informed/sensitive, neuroscience/evidence-based with a focus on insight (emotion and cognitive awareness and shifts) and behavioural changes.
Our team aims to help you create and discover a life worth living for and have fulfilling relationships with yourself and with others. Living from a place of fear/anger/resentment right now might be impacting how you see the world every single day. It may also affect your relationships with your family members, partners, and/or children (young and adults), friends, even coworkers, and you need help to make sense of it all. Every day, you may experience conflict, lack of connection, fear of something, or other challenges that gets in the way of you finding that sense of belonging and ownership over your life.

I practice from a relational, attachment-based perspective and intentionally incorporate therapeutic approaches that support my clients as they navigate life’s challenges and work towards achieving their goals.
There is nothing more beautiful to me than the rawness of the human spirit. No matter who we are, where we are from or where we go next, we carry narratives about ourselves that impact our experiences and the way we show up in the world. Humans are social beings, which means that the condition of our relationships directly influences our quality of life & overall wellness. However, many of us were never taught the importance of nurturing a strong and healthy relationship with the self, first. Without this relationship, we may be left wondering who we are, what matters most, and how to let go of what no longer serves us.

I may draw from attachment-based, psychodynamic, narrative, mindfulness based, and/or cognitive behavioural approaches.
Feeling disconnected? Perhaps you're struggling to exist in a society that doesn't feel like its accepting of you? I specialize in working with clients who often feel they diverge from societal norms. I have special interest in working with clients who may describe themselves as belonging to these groups: Neurodiverse, LGBTQIA+, Ethically Non-Monogamous, Kinky, and/or those involved in non-traditional family/relationship dynamics. If this is you, now that you are not alone! My experience may not be the same as yours, but through collaboration, we can work together to help find the best treatment methods for your unique situation.

Human beings, on the whole, are extraordinarily complex. I believe that we each carry within us depths that we do not necessarily draw on in our day-to-day movements, be it by choice, or by a certain unawareness – when what is needed to access our full capacities has not yet been discovered. When feeling stuck, it can be important to be reminded of our resilience and our capacity to change, to flow in the midst of flux.

Anxiety could make us feel like we’re living in constant fear and at times we just want to escape and run away. Depression could make us feel like we don’t want to do anything and it's so hard to find any trace of motivation. Even getting out of bed feels like an enormous challenge. Relationship issues make us feel like we have someone that we cherish, but it’s so hard to communicate with them, they just don’t seem to get what we’re saying, or they claim to understand our point yet never implement any real action. Disagreements and disappointments accumulate, and we start to question the necessity to continue.

You are asking the big existential questions. Why am I here? What is the purpose of my life? Perhaps you keep looking to self-help books and always taking the next seminar or online course - always looking for the answers outside yourself. You want to feel connected to yourself, your loved ones, and the world around you, yet you feel like you don't belong. You feel loss and grief and are searching for purpose but are living with depression and anxiety and questioning your self-worth.

We all tell ourselves stories about who we are and how we fit into the world. Sometimes, these ways we have of talking to ourselves can become problematic and affect our internal wellbeing, anxiety, relationships, and emotional health. I have a special interest in working with you to explore your internal narratives and identities to help you find ways to create a more positive and cohesive sense of self. I have experience working through these issues within the context of trauma including childhood, sexual, religious, and physical traumas. I also enjoy working with younger folks and identity formation.

Attachment-based Counsellors

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
