I work from an attachment-based trauma informed lens, and will be beside you as you journey to uncover areas that may have been neglected or overlooked, and help you reconnect with various parts of your Self.
If you've been doing it on our own, and feel like your current tool kit just isn't working, I invite you to connect with me to help you add to your set or even sharpen what you've already got. If you are having difficulty with boundaries and communication, struggling with the stresses of daily life, or simply seeking personal growth, I can help. Whatever your reason is for seeking therapy, know that you're not alone. We will work together to get you where you want to be.

Hello, I'm Niki, very nice to meet you. Chances are you are noticing that some things in your life just aren't working anymore. There are some life events that impact our emotional well-being. Sometimes they are easier to overcome than others. Those that are not easily managed can lead to prolonged mental health concerns such as depression, anxiety, addiction, and others. In therapy, I can help you to work through the process of healing. I have a genuine and compassionate approach that I bring to each session. I hope to help you find emotional health.

I tend to use attachment-based, trauma-informed, and somatic approaches in my work.
As a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC), I offer online counselling to individual adults and couples facing issues such as anxiety, trauma, and relationship concerns. I help people understand how past experiences may have shaped their patterns and beliefs, and support learning new ways of relating to self and others that may increase connection, intimacy, and authenticity. I help clients learn things such as effective communication skills, how to set boundaries, how to manage stress and anxiety, and how to regulate their nervous systems so that they can navigate their daily lives with more ease and joy.

Are things feeling like a lot right now? It's tough out there. Whether you're struggling in your relationships, wondering what the heck a boundary is and how to create them, needing ways to cope with a really intense world, or wanting to trace a frustrating pattern and find new ways forward, you deserve support. I work with folks who are feeling stuck or overwhelmed to build resilience and choice. Using a somatic, attachment-based approach, I aim to create a space of care and acceptance for folks to name and feel feelings, map out unhelpful patterns, and practice new ways of navigating life’s challenges.

Waitlist for new clients
I'm honored to witness clients' transformative journeys, helping them gain clarity and a deeper self-understanding through emotion-focused, experiential, and attachment-based therapies.
Feeling overwhelmed or pulled in so many different directions? Maybe, you feel unsettled, anxious or just “stuck.” You know that something needs to change, but are not sure where to start. Processing emotional pain or relational struggles by yourself can be very overwhelming. And it can be unbearably lonely. The people I work with are amid grief, or navigating tricky life changes. Others are struggling with relationships or carrying the weight of past hurt and trauma. I work to help clients feel what they may have avoided because it seemed too big and overwhelming.

I use attachment-based and embodied approaches, guiding you through exploring memories, sensations, deeply held beliefs, and emotions.
Negative life experiences can have lasting effects on many aspects of life, including mood, self-esteem, relationships, employment, parenting, and overall wellness. Sometimes the ways that the past affects the present are unclear or unknown, and sometimes the past feels as if it's happening now. The path to healing is often through exploring and addressing these past hurts, which can be extremely intimidating and also rewarding.

I practice from an attachment-based framework and strive to foster experiences in therapy that are corrective, allowing you to release the grip of the past, restore balance, and feel fully alive.
Being human is messy and sometimes life can be difficult to navigate alone. When things unravel and you are feeling overwhelmed, defeated, or stuck, you deserve to be fully heard and accepted. Through creating a foundation of trust and utilizing evidence-based approaches, I can help you to move in new directions, overcome the impact of difficult life experiences, and shape lasting positive changes. Rather than providing short-term superficial solutions to your concerns, I am committed to supporting you to get to the heart of the matter and resolving the root causes of your distress.

Our approach is attachment-based, trauma-informed/sensitive, neuroscience/evidence-based with a focus on insight (emotion and cognitive awareness and shifts) and behavioural changes.
Our team aims to help you create and discover a life worth living for and have fulfilling relationships with yourself and with others. Living from a place of fear/anger/resentment right now might be impacting how you see the world every single day. It may also affect your relationships with your family members, partners, and/or children (young and adults), friends, even coworkers, and you need help to make sense of it all. Every day, you may experience conflict, lack of connection, fear of something, or other challenges that gets in the way of you finding that sense of belonging and ownership over your life.

I practice from a relational, attachment-based perspective and intentionally incorporate therapeutic approaches that support my clients as they navigate life’s challenges and work towards achieving their goals.
There is nothing more beautiful to me than the rawness of the human spirit. No matter who we are, where we are from or where we go next, we carry narratives about ourselves that impact our experiences and the way we show up in the world. Humans are social beings, which means that the condition of our relationships directly influences our quality of life & overall wellness. However, many of us were never taught the importance of nurturing a strong and healthy relationship with the self, first. Without this relationship, we may be left wondering who we are, what matters most, and how to let go of what no longer serves us.

For work with children and families, I draw on attachment-based interventions including Theraplay and my training as a Circle of Security Parenting (COSP) Facilitator.
I specialize in the treatment of trauma-related symptoms, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, grief and loss, life transitions, parenting support, and attachment wounds unique to those who have been adopted. Most people have experienced challenges in their life and it is normal to feel stuck, lost, or confused as a result of what we have experienced. People have the resources and inner wisdom to heal and by working together we can integrate those painful experiences so they do not remain in the present causing emotional pain and disturbance.

Attachment-based Counsellors

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
