Our approach is attachment-based, trauma-informed/sensitive, neuroscience/evidence-based with a focus on insight (emotion and cognitive awareness and shifts) and behavioural changes.
Our team aims to help you create and discover a life worth living for and have fulfilling relationships with yourself and with others. Living from a place of fear/anger/resentment right now might be impacting how you see the world every single day. It may also affect your relationships with your family members, partners, and/or children (young and adults), friends, even coworkers, and you need help to make sense of it all. Every day, you may experience conflict, lack of connection, fear of something, or other challenges that gets in the way of you finding that sense of belonging and ownership over your life.

Over the past 10 years, I have had the honour of working with teens, adults and seniors struggling with trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, self-harm, suicidal ideation, emotion regulation, attachment, relational difficulties and more. I believe emotional and physical safety to be critical components in fostering a trusting and therapeutic relationship throughout sessions. This ensures that the therapeutic journey is reparative rather than re-traumatizing.

Each of us hold the answers and the strength needed to navigate even the most difficult circumstances. Still, we may benefit from support in uncovering this inner strength and the solutions within it. I work with adults, youth and families to address traumas still held in the body/mind, anxiety, depression, self-discovery and relationships. My passion is working with families. I focus on the power of emotion and attachment and their role in the well being of families and the emotional development of children. My goal will be to support you in building healthier relationships that can survive difficult experiences in the future.

My knowledge and experience are built on a foundation of trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, feminist, and somatic approaches. My work in the non-profit sector focused on women and children/youth who had experienced violence and abuse. In private practice, I seek to support people by building self understanding, self compassion, and positive growth. I give clients the space they need to be heard and seen, and to help navigate their life story in a way that promotes current and future well-being. I recently completed the first year of Somatic Experiencing training and am excited to offer this approach of nervous system regulation.

As parents we sometimes feel at a loss as to how to help our child, particularly when they are experiencing difficulties in more than one area of their lives: at school, with friends, regulating emotions, academically, socially or behaviorally. My personal experience and my love for children has helped me to realize that many parents need support and I have a passion for helping children and parents navigate these challenges. It is my belief that it takes a village for total and consistent support to achieve optimum results. I can help with home and school, on what can be a. tough and confusing path.

Many of my clients are looking for ways to strengthen their voices and develop a stronger sense of who they are. They tend to see themselves as outliers: the ones who count themselves out or who yearn for a different life but can’t quite navigate how to get it. My experience as a teacher and comedy/theatre performer combines with my naturally playful and energetic self to help people manage what’s ahead. Together, we will work on developing greater awareness and self-compassion while stoking our imaginations to think of new ways forward.

In a confidential & supportive environment I improve peoples quality of life by helping them feel better & meet their goals. We can do this in an office, your house or any place you feel safe in. I also do web based counselling though Zoom for those outside of Kamloops or in other remote locations. I have found that with the right health information, be it with educational media, engaging presentations or confidential & therapeutic individual sessions, that people will be comfortable to move toward health, wellness & happiness.

Attachment-based Counsellors

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
