In my role as your counsellor, I will bring a person-centered, trauma informed, and attachment-based therapeutic approach.
My extensive experience in programs for youth and adults enhanced my passion for helping and establishing connections with others. I have always been interested in establishing a deeper understanding of our life experiences, how they shape us as well as the development of our interpersonal relationships. This interest and curiosity stems from my own journey with interpersonal relationships, grief, and parenthood that has developed into the foundation of my appreciation for the strength and healing that we all share within our unique journeys.

Hello and welcome! I hope I can be of service to you in your healing journey. My intention as a therapist is that you feel heard and understood as you expand your self-knowledge and move towards your goals. I bring curiosity, compassion, warmth and respect to this work. My approach to counselling is holistic (mind, body, and spirit), emotion-focused, attachment-based, person-centred, trauma-informed, and anti-oppressive.
When we’re alone, facing what causes us pain and discomfort can be confusing and overwhelming. I believe that therapy is the doorway to self-knowing and that the most profound healing occurs when exploration happens in the presence of a safe and supportive other. My goal as a therapist is to provide a warm, empathetic, and non-judgmental space where together we can explore and work through the difficult feelings, thoughts, and experiences that are impacting your personal functioning, relationships, and healing.

I work with folks who are experiencing post-traumatic stress responses, anxiety, depression, the effects of abuse and early attachment wounds. Through a relational, attachment-based somatic approach to counselling, I can help clients develop a stronger sense of self, increase their capacity to tolerate emotions, learn to self-regulate the nervous system, repair relational injuries, get "unstuck", and heal from the effects of trauma in an embodied way.

AEDP is an attachment-based, experiential treatment model ideally suited to address and treat relational trauma.
My work is relational, emotion-focused, and experiential. Relational means establishing a unique and real connection with people — i.e. not being a “blank slate” therapist. Emotion-focused means helping people pay attention to old emotional patterns that may no longer be serving them. Experiential means going beyond just talking about patterns. It means offering actual in-session experiences of doing things a different way — working together to form new and preferred patterns that are conducive to one’s therapy goal(s).

My career in the realm of psychotherapy started with a few goals which are now the roots of my practice: I want clients to feel safe getting vulnerable. I want you to have freedom navigating complex & highly emotional situations, in a non- judgemental space. I want to help you find strength, humour and resiliency, even in the most uncertain of times. In the very least, we'll have a good chat and maybe you leave with a different perspective. I have developed a skillset for tackling tough issues around stress, trauma and attachment, relationships, anger, anxiety, depression and substance use.

Attachment-based Counsellors

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
