Her evidence based tools including Cognitive Behavioural reconditioning as well as psychodynamic, relational and hypnosis approaches set you on a path to direct healing, starting immediately after the first 90 minute session. My approach to psychotherapy is balanced and holistic, which gets to the root of my clients' chronic stress, depression, overeating, fatigue, anxiety, and nervous system imbalances and aims for their overall wellness. I have a background in wellness and disability management and over a decade of experience working in mental health. In my work, I use trauma-informed, neuroscience-based interventions that go beyond talk therapy. I will teach you to gain a deeper understanding of your nervous system processes, regulate your emotions and physical reactions, and retrain your brain so it changes its unhelpful responses to stress.

Perhaps something wounding in your history has fractured your wholeness and you feel overwhelmed and less connected to your core. There may be a part of you that feels conflicted, and challenges in life may feel like too much. Maybe the ever-evolving, and unique-expression of life that you are, is not feeling supported in its development. Having self-governance and allowing the unique-expression of life emerge through us is a birthright of humanity. You can be connected with your core, essence and inner guidance system that leads the way to your healing.

“The quality of our relationships determines the quality of our lives.” - Esther Perel. I guide clients to reflect on the relationship they have with themselves and with others, while prioritizing connection and presence. Being heard and feeling heard can foster intimacy, however it can also feel vulnerable to self-disclose parts of the self which have been masked and hidden away.

Perhaps you’ve grown tired of carrying beliefs like “I’m not good enough” or “I’m unlovable”. Maybe you’re hoping to find relief from the all-too-familiar persistent anxiety, and low self-esteem. Perhaps you're tired of constantly people-pleasing, and relentlessly criticizing yourself. Well...You are not alone. Each one of us has a unique story; a diverse history filled with moments of joy and pain. Sometimes, our stories become overrun with unhelpful assumptions or beliefs, sometimes trauma plays a role. It’s natural for challenges to be a part of our story; but I want to ensure they do not dictate all your future chapters.

Whether you are feeling stuck in life, experiencing a transition or loss, or feeling disconnected from your core self, counselling can help. My clients are typically high-functioning and competent individuals, yet struggle on the inside with issues such as anxiety, emptiness, identity and recurring unhelpful patterns which affect them, their relationships, and other areas of their lives. What if you viewed the parts of you that feel stuck or the issues that you experience as profound opportunities for growth and transformation?

Attachment-based Counsellors

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
