Our approach is attachment-based, trauma-informed/sensitive, neuroscience/evidence-based with a focus on insight (emotion and cognitive awareness and shifts) and behavioural changes.
Our team aims to help you create and discover a life worth living for and have fulfilling relationships with yourself and with others. Living from a place of fear/anger/resentment right now might be impacting how you see the world every single day. It may also affect your relationships with your family members, partners, and/or children (young and adults), friends, even coworkers, and you need help to make sense of it all. Every day, you may experience conflict, lack of connection, fear of something, or other challenges that gets in the way of you finding that sense of belonging and ownership over your life.

Hello, I'm Niki, very nice to meet you. Chances are you are noticing that some things in your life just aren't working anymore. There are some life events that impact our emotional well-being. Sometimes they are easier to overcome than others. Those that are not easily managed can lead to prolonged mental health concerns such as depression, anxiety, addiction, and others. In therapy, I can help you to work through the process of healing. I have a genuine and compassionate approach that I bring to each session. I hope to help you find emotional health.

Although my approach is tailored to best support each individual's unique needs, I draw heavily on AEDP and attachment-based theories.
Starting a counselling journey takes courage; I honour your decision to explore it. I take a collaborative and holistic approach to supporting mental, emotional, embodied, and spiritual healing, depending on a person’s unique needs, goals, and hopes. I love walking alongside clients as they grow into fuller, more authentic expressions of themselves and their relationships.

My therapeutic approach is Holistic and an integration of therapeutic theories. I work with all the aspects that makes us human beings. We live in a society that traps us in our minds, disconnecting us from the rest of ourselves (body, heart, soul, intuition). I help with processing emotions, re-wiring the brain, healing the inner child, integration work, remembering how to listen to your body and its wisdom. Re-connecting to your heart and spirit and finding the truth of who you are, are the best tools that will help you fill the existential void we all struggle with.

I use a collaborative, person-centred approach. I am aware of the constraints and social inequalities people face, which act as both a cause of mental health issues and a barrier to receiving help. I work with those experiencing various concerns through a trauma-informed, social justice and anti-oppressive framework. I value healing through connection, sharing and community. Growth is a lifelong journey, and I provide a judgment-free safe space for clients to explore their inner world. Compassion, authenticity, and cultural sensitivity are my practice's underlying values.

By addressing troubling thoughts and feelings, self-sabotaging behaviors, and traumas, life can be made more manageable, productive, and fulfilling. Feelings such as grief, shame, anxiety, sadness, and anger often signal that something needs to change. Listening to and working with these feelings—some that consume us and others that gently nudge us—can move us forward. Through this, we sometimes discover that our everyday dilemmas are part of larger patterns waiting to be resolved as a whole.

I have been in private counselling practice for 15 years, and in wellness, personal development and the media for 25 years. My practice draws self-referring, high-functioning adults/couples with addiction, phobia, anxiety, depression and attachment disorders affecting their lives beyond their historical, current or perceived ability of self-control. In couples, I usually begin individually to create safety and self-awareness, then back together towards clear self-advocacy, expression and to build trustful communication. EMDR in the couple context can clear a lot of old trauma and wounded pattern-associations that mire us in destructive relational dynamics.

Most of us are yearning for more out of life and our relationships. We yearn for more freedom, more choice, more love, more adventure, more willingness to risk, more contribution, more peace, more belonging. Clients say that as a result of seeing me for therapy, they experience themselves as having a renewed sense of purpose, direction, more freedom, peace, energy, vitality and a stronger connection to their own life force. I am unique from others in my field because I have devoted my life to learning how to help my clients actually transform what is holding them back rather than just talking about it.

Throughout our lifetime, moments, feelings, and changes weigh us down. It is hard to figure out how to free ourselves of this weight and how to move forward. I view counselling as a collaborative process that requires both an effort and a desire to work toward change. Some of my lived experiences include systemic racism, chronic pain, religious deconstruction, and marital transition. When I am not in the therapy room, you can find me at a local coffee shop or having a quiet night at home. I enjoy taking pictures with my film camera, painting, and spending time with those close to me.

Attachment-based Counsellors

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
