NOTE: Currently only accepting Palestinian, Arab and MENA/SWANA Diaspora clients due to Israel committing a genocide of Palestinians. Are you an adult with ADHD, Autism, or LD and struggling to navigate a world that feels impossibly challenging? Do you feel overwhelmed by the constant demands of work, school, relationships, finances, etc? Maybe you're feeling discouraged by a recent "failure" in a relationship, stigmatized in your school setting, or totally hopeless with your job workload. Neurodivergent acults often struggle from a chronic sense of underachievement, and feel frustrated that their talents and skills go unseen.

At some point, we all hit a wall where self-help books and call-in therapy radio shows are no longer enough. Whether you are finding your way through grief over the loss of a loved one, experiencing a transition in your life, struggling in relationship or career, there is no reason why you have to go it alone. Believing a counselor must work on healing their own issues first, I have worked thru my own struggles in all of these areas. As a result I bring that learning to help many others.

I'm so glad you are here, and I hope to share a little about how I work and a little about myself along the way as well. I truly believe that fit is one of the most important parts about therapy & getting started can be often be one of the toughest parts. I am Registered Social Worker (RSW in both BC & ON) & Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) and have been working in various counselling roles over the past 10 years. I work from an intersectional feminist lens and notice the impact of gender, ableism, class, sexual orientation, race & socioeconomic status can have on mental health. I truly believe that 'feminism is for everybody'.

I help teens, young adults and parents whose life feels limited by past experiences, shame, self criticism, anxiety and/or depression. Whether you are looking for short term counselling (emotional support and some help to get back on your feet), more in depth therapy (changing longer existing patterns of how you behave and relate with yourself and others), or emotional intelligence coaching (to improve yourself personally or professionally), I can help. My clients are from very varied backgrounds and ages, however I do specialize in working with health care professionals, first responders, and young adults.

I take an attachment-based lens to help understand how your experiences have shaped you, pulling from various experiential modalities to personalize your experience.
While working with me, you’ll find that I take a gentle yet direct angle to help you move at your pace while giving an encouraging push to keep you on your path to healing and wholeness. I take a special focus in exploring how your past experiences impact your current life in a nonjudgmental and compassionate way. This often looks like examining how your trauma (big or small, it's all valid!) is still carried today. I aim to help you find the safety to let go of your burdens and find new ways that your system can work for you, based on the here and now instead of the past, through processing and integration of new patterns.

We believe counselling is about being open and willing about exploring that which is negatively impacting your life. Facing challenges and difficulties takes courage and a belief that something could be different and even, perhaps, better. I aim to create a warm and welcoming space. Here, you are invited to explore your current situation with a focus on how to create a brighter tomorrow. We believe each person has a sense of what is helpful. Personalizing each session, we collaboratively create a plan to move you through this challenge and to a tomorrow with greater freedom. We offer reduced rate counselling with our MACP candidate.

Are you struggling to keep up with the many demands of life? Do you feel disconnected from yourself and those around you? Does past trauma affect your ability to feel safe in the present? Are you tired of navigating systems that don’t make sense or support you? You are not alone! We are all biologically wired for love and connection, but when you fight each day to keep your head above water it can be extremely isolating and asking for help might feel scary and overwhelming. I would like to assure you that you are worthy of help and compassionate support is available to you and your family.

I work primarily with adult (19+) individuals who want to find freedom from the patterns they can’t seem to understand or can’t seem to change. Perhaps you are burdened with anxiety; perhaps want to become your authentic self; maybe you want to explore troubling relationship patterns; or maybe you find yourself repeating behaviours despite your best intentions to change. Whatever it is that brings you here, welcome! Even in life’s most painful, disorienting moments, I believe reconnecting with the essence of who we are provides us with wisdom that can propel us forward. I'm here to help you do just that.

Being human is turbulent, unpredictable, and often a lot more than we were prepared for. Break ups, job transition, life transition, school stress, interpersonal conflict, emotion management, regulation and dysregulation, I work closely with those who have experienced a variety of concerns and distress. Through care and deep compassion, I work to understand you, thoughtfully creating a safe space for your self-discovery. And together, we can locate your self-at-best, find resilience, improve emotional agility, and restore your adaptive functioning, where you are able to feel, deal, and heal in a way that honours who you are.

Attachment-based Counsellors

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
