As a counsellor I hope to model grace, courage, and genuineness to my clients while I come along side them, and act as a resource for positive change in their lives. I have a warm, engaging, and professional demeanour that helps clients feel at ease, supported, and able to embrace the delicate balance between risk, hope, and trust. Most importantly, I want my clients to know that it is an absolute privilege that they invite me into their lives to share on their journey with them. This may include helping my clients with concerns relating to their personal growth, wellness, relationships, mental health, and/or psychological distress.

I’m a registered clinical counsellor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors, I have a Masters in Counselling Psychology, I’m trained in trauma-informed, somatic, relational, neuroscience, and attachment-based therapies and have a decade of experience in the field of mental health.
Hi! I’m Lauren (she/her). I’m here to help you heal, grow and thrive by tapping into the inner knowing and wisdom of your body and heart, and by encouraging you to step into your power and truth. The clients who seek me out are often on journeys of self discovery or facing life transitions that open up questions and possibilities about who they are, what matters most to them, and how they want to live. I was called to this work through my personal journey of owning my unique path in life, despite it being different than the societal expectations that I grew up with.

My work is person-centred and holistic, grounded in an attachment-based framework supported by various therapeutic modalities such as experiential work, EMDR, narrative, internal family systems, DBT, and mindfulness.
When it comes to healing and/or pushing through challenges in life, it is normal to wish for someone to walk alongside you. My approach is guided by the understanding that we, as people, are a walking mosaic of our lived experiences as well as the experiences we did not receive. Whether your area of concern be surrounding mental health challenges, exploring the many parts of your identity that make you who you are, processing traumas, religious deconstruction, or learning new personal skills, I will join you on your journey towards clarity, understanding, and moving forward.

AEDP is an attachment-based, experiential treatment model ideally suited to address and treat relational trauma.
My work is relational, emotion-focused, and experiential. Relational means establishing a unique and real connection with people — i.e. not being a “blank slate” therapist. Emotion-focused means helping people pay attention to old emotional patterns that may no longer be serving them. Experiential means going beyond just talking about patterns. It means offering actual in-session experiences of doing things a different way — working together to form new and preferred patterns that are conducive to one’s therapy goal(s).

I am a Registered Psychotherapist and Registered Counselling Supervisor. My practice is guided by extensive experience working with people coming from various socioeconomic backgrounds as well as many years of serving the most vulnerable communities in Vancouver’s DTES. While my approach is integrative of modern theories and techniques, it heavily relies on Psychodynamic theories and practice. Psychodynamic Psychotherapy is a highly individualized treatment whose goal is not only to alleviate the most obvious symptom. It relies on the fact that our personalities are uniquely shaped by several developmental stages.

Vulnerability can make us feel very uncomfortable, but if we view it as a transition, into higher self-esteem/confidence & therefore more life resilience then it is much healthier to forge ahead to find a therapist who can support us. Finding the best fit in seeking a therapist is the most important step in relieving your stress. Many of us struggle with unhappiness, anxiety, depression, suicide ideation, sleep deprivation, separation, divorce, conflict resolution, trauma, relationship, and parenting issues, emotion regulation, communication and assertiveness, boundaries, personal development, caregiver burden and so much more

I specialize in counselling for the LGBTQ+ community, neurodivergent people, and those with BPD - often self-identified oddballs, weirdos, and outsiders with big feelings. I love working with highly sensitive people; those who have been told they are "too much" and experience the world with intensity. Many of my clients struggle with feeling empty, numb, and disconnected one minute, and in excruciating emotional pain the next, as if they're on a rollercoaster that they can't get off and no one around them understands. It can be incredibly isolating, leaving them feeling disconnected from community and struggling in relationships.

I approach counselling from a lens that is grounded in the continued practice of anti-racism, disability justice, queer theory, sex positivity, and that recognizes the systemic violence that has, and continues to, harm us and impact our experiences in the world, and inside ourselves. The main niche of folks that I have had the honour of working with over the years have been queer and trans folks, sex workers, disabled folks, non-traditional relationship networks, kink and bdsm communities, BIPOC folks, folks navigating complex trauma, and those living at the intersections of many of these identities.

Although you’re surrounded by familiar faces, there’s an underlying feeling of loneliness and isolation that seems to follow you wherever you go. You long for deeper connection in your relationships, but you just can’t seem to find the right people or circles where you feel at ease. As someone who has many sides to their self, it constantly feels like you have to sacrifice parts of your identity to fit in. You’re finding it harder to enjoy the activities you once did and you’re overcome with exhaustion or restlessness as you try to get through your day. No matter how hard you try, it feels like there’s something missing.

Attachment-based Counsellors

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
