My primary method of treatment is attachment-based EMDR.
If you’re feeling tired, stuck, and alone - struggling with issues from the past and worries about the future, know that healing IS possible. Being held back by anxiety, depression, or relationship issues causes unnecessary suffering. Together we can uncover and resolve sources of unhelpful patterns so you can adjust and move forward. Imagine - no longer feeling stuck, no longer believing something is deeply wrong with you. Imagine living fully.

Although my approach is tailored to best support each individual's unique needs, I draw heavily on AEDP and attachment-based theories.
Starting a counselling journey takes courage; I honour your decision to explore it. I take a collaborative and holistic approach to supporting mental, emotional, embodied, and spiritual healing, depending on a person’s unique needs, goals, and hopes. I love walking alongside clients as they grow into fuller, more authentic expressions of themselves and their relationships.

I use attachment-based and embodied approaches, guiding you through exploring memories, sensations, deeply held beliefs, and emotions.
Negative life experiences can have lasting effects on many aspects of life, including mood, self-esteem, relationships, employment, parenting, and overall wellness. Sometimes the ways that the past affects the present are unclear or unknown, and sometimes the past feels as if it's happening now. The path to healing is often through exploring and addressing these past hurts, which can be extremely intimidating and also rewarding.

I work with folks who are experiencing post-traumatic stress responses, anxiety, depression, the effects of abuse and early attachment wounds. Through a relational, attachment-based somatic approach to counselling, I can help clients develop a stronger sense of self, increase their capacity to tolerate emotions, learn to self-regulate the nervous system, repair relational injuries, get "unstuck", and heal from the effects of trauma in an embodied way.

As an art therapist as well as an RCC, I have a wide variety of clientele of all ages. I see mostly individuals who are experiencing anxiety, grief and loss, childhood trauma, anger issues, depression and issues related to neurodiversity. My office has a comfortable seating area for conversation, a sand tray with a growing assortment of figurines, and a wide variety of art supplies in an art making space. I feel privileged to offer client-centred support and creative directives when requested, which seems to be very popular with children and artists. I look forward to hearing more about how I may be of support to you at this time.

You are often experiencing circular arguments, or a complete stand off when it comes to communicating, and it feels as if the love between you has all but disappeared. You are at a loss as to how to untangle the situation that you are in. Life is busy and stressful and something needs to change or your relationship could quite possibly be over. You want to feel the love again. You want to be able to talk to each other and be heard and understood. You want to wake up each day feeling calm and happy and excited for the future, knowing you and your partner are a team, in this journey of life together.

I use a collaborative, person-centred approach. I am aware of the constraints and social inequalities people face, which act as both a cause of mental health issues and a barrier to receiving help. I work with those experiencing various concerns through a trauma-informed, social justice and anti-oppressive framework. I value healing through connection, sharing and community. Growth is a lifelong journey, and I provide a judgment-free safe space for clients to explore their inner world. Compassion, authenticity, and cultural sensitivity are my practice's underlying values.

Dandelion Counselling offers a creative, safe and containing space to explore thoughts and feelings. To be effective, it is not about what I 'do', but, what I can 'be' for the client: meeting wherever you may be in life and gently & empathically co-creating a therapeutic relationship. I am trained in integrative psychotherapeutic counselling with an interest in attachment and developmental trauma. This allows us to move beyond behaviour modification into an biopsychosocial psychotherapeutic understanding of what is happening. The insights from these fields can support a shift to a life where we 'respond' rather than 'react'.

There are various issues that come up in life, from every day life stresses to unimaginable trauma. We all cope differently with what life has given us and heal in our own unique way. I am passionate about therapy as I have personally experienced, witnessed and facilitated immense healing through the therapeutic process. Human beings are social with a deep drive toward contact and connection. Regardless of what we have experienced in life there is an accessible pathway for all of us back to the core of our being where a true sense of self worth, peace and contentment reside.

Attachment-based Counsellors

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
