I use a person-centered framework while drawing from acceptance and commitment therapy, psychodynamic, existentialist and attachment-based approaches.
Hey! I'm Christopher, a Registered Provisional Psychologist. I work with teens, adults, couples and families dealing with a variety of concerns. I value flexibility, accountability and fun. I strive to meet you - wherever you are in life's journey, whether you wish to dive deep and wade through the darkness or if you just want a tune up and need some immediate relief. I aim to hold you accountable to your goals, hopes, and dreams in our work together. Lastly, I believe the journey is about progress over perfection (no matter how tiny), which can be a lot more fun when we are able to exhale and share a few laughs along the way.

As a Registered Provisional Psychologist, my goal is to help all clients trust their experiences and feel their emotions while improving their ability to be in safe, affirming relationships with themselves and others. I have always been fascinated by people and truly believe that each person already has everything they need to live the life they envision. From an attachment-based perspective, I am particularly interested in working with clients hoping to improve their relationships.

It is my honour to work alongside you to help you find ways to feel better. My goal is help you gain clarity on difficult feelings and problems you face and then change unhelpful patterns. Therapy can help you feel empowered and restore your connection with wellness.

I use techniques from acceptance and commitment therapy, feminist therapy, mindfulness-based interventions, and attachment-based therapy.
Do you struggle with trauma, connecting to others, violence, or substance abuse/addiction? Is the hurt from old wounds through relationships across your lifespan still causing you pain? I believe that like hurt, healing happens through relationships and we will work together to meet your goals and help you move forward on a path of healing. First and foremost, I believe you have inherent value simply by being human and will take a humanistic and strengths-based approach to your challenges. We will work together to process your experiences and create realistic strategies for moving forward.

Some approaches that I often draw from include humanistic theories, EMDR, CBT, attachment-based, strength-based, solution-focused, and play therapy (yes, even adults can play if they want!).
“Life is tough” - reading that phrase might really resonate with you, but it might also seem like the understatement of the year because in fact, life feels impossible and unbearable. Or maybe, you feel that the word “tough” is too strong and life is actually going ok, but there are some rough spots you could use help with. No matter where you are in life, what’s happening, or how challenging you may find it, you deserve to be supported through it and reaching out is a great step. Remember, you are never “too broken” to be helped and your problems are never “too small” to be worth asking for help.

I use a holistic and attachment-based approach to help individuals, partners, and families identify and shift out of negative patterns and beliefs so they can start to build stronger relationships with themselves and one another.
You struggle to feel like you're good enough. No matter how hard you try it feels like you don't measure up and you're always falling short. It's hard to find a space where you can truly belong and be yourself. Sometimes you feel overwhelmed by your life and relationships. Other times you feel completely hopeless. You are ready to let go of the belief that you were never good enough and begin to feel comfortable being yourself. Therapy can be a space where you can show up just as you are and learn to love yourself. It's your time to take off the masks, let go of the pressure, and begin to connect with your true self.

My work is culturally-sensitive, trauma-informed, and attachment-based.
I work with people who want to change their patterns of behaving and responses to triggers. Their goals are to navigate a hard season, heal through trauma, find relief from stress/burn-out, and foster healthier relationships. Many of my clients struggle with anxiety/panic, depression, managing hard emotions (like anger), perfectionism/the need to achieve, low self-worth, and codependency/boundary-setting. As a first generation Canadian Filipina, I often see BIPOC folks wanting a therapist who understands what it's like to navigate one's life, identity, and trauma, while straddling two cultures.

I'm an experienced parent coach and couple therapist. I love to help parents understand their children's behaviours from the inside out and get them back in the driver's seat! To accomplish this, I have found Dr. Gordon Neufeld's attachment and developmental approach to be most effective. With my couples, I use a research backed model called EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy). EFT pays particular attention to those interactions where couples get stuck, those moments where the signals get scrambled. It provides a road map to identify the negative pattern, de-escalate emotional reactivity and re-establish the connection.

I am honoured to support people in finding their path to healing. I believe that we have our own capacity to move through difficult times and know that taking this step can be pretty tricky. My approach is gentle and fairly eclectic, I tend to use the modality that best suits the clients needs with an attachment based lens. I tend to focus on play therapy and emotion focused therapies with children as well as utilize some dyad work. With adults I tend to use EMDR, trauma processing, solution focused therapy, person centred and emotion focussed therapy modalities. I offer a free 15 minute consultation to ensure I am the right fit.

Attachment-based Counsellors

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
