I have a passion for working with individuals with anxiety and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). I am very open about my own experience with anxiety because I strongly feel like it should be normalized, as the majority of individuals experience a mental health need at some point in their lives; there is absolutely no shame in that. I help my clients reach their goals of mental calm by providing them with a safe environment to explore and unpack their fears. Together, we begin to understand the psychology of where that fear has stemmed from and begin to take steps forward in facing our anxiety and in thriving vs. surviving.

You may feel like you need to reconnect and reframe your experiences and need a safe space to take care of your emotional health. I know that can be challenging to face your vulnerability while everything is changing in a way you cannot control. Allow me to support you in this transformative process.

In challenging times, it is easier to feel stuck, emotionally overwhelmed and somewhat confused. Having an opportunity to be heard, deeply understood, in a caring and non-judgemental way, will give you the opportunity to strengthening and/or re-activating your natural tendency to grow and heal. My therapy is done through a holistic approach in the sense that the mind is seen as part of the body; the notion of felt-meaning is central. This view has been particularly useful in working not only with those who are seeking help to deal with affective-emotional issues, but also with those who are struggling with more physical aspects.

I would like to offer you my appreciation on how important the step you are giving right now is. Finding a psychotherapist can be daunting or disconcerting at first but the impulse that brought you here means you want things to be different, right? Maybe with less anxiety, less suffering or less loneliness. Maybe with more space to be who you are and experience more easiness to relate to others. Past traumas, being raised in non-attuned contexts and any form of oppression impose ruptures to the dialog between us and others and the internal parts of ourselves. These cracks generate conflicts, suffering, shame, and a self-alienation.

Life-threatening and chronic illnesses such as cancer can change you in so many ways - physically, emotionally, socially, spiritually. It can be difficult to cope with feelings of grief, anger, lack of control, frustration, anxiety or fear - even after active treatment is finished. It's common to feel overwhelmed while trying to make decisions, adjusting to a new normal, and managing changes in your identity, at any stage of this trajectory. But you do not need to face it alone.

What’s on your mind? From finding the right words- to saying them out loud- giving voice to your thoughts can be scary. Struggles with relationships, self-esteem, anxiety and immigration can feel overwhelming to anyone. Finding a safe space and a non-judgmental perspective can be one of the best ways to process your feelings or thoughts. Having lived and worked in Brazil, the U.S., and Canada, I understand how different experiences and cultures can help shape who we are. I bring this empathy- and curiosity- to my practice. I can help you find out how to feel like yourself again, even if you're at a different phase of your life.

With over 10 years of experience and skill in offering therapy for those adapting after a life change, self-worth struggles, and anxiety.
Major life events can evoke different emotions: excitement, sadness, fear, and uncertainty. They can be overwhelming. I thrive on helping individuals and couples process, understand, and adjust to life events. It can be challenging to say out loud why this place may not feel completely like home or why your children may feel very different from you. I provide deep compassion, understanding, and empathy. I have a special interest in working with immigrant populations. I think all of us can have the opportunity to understand motives and transform patterns that allow us to grow emotionally in a safe space.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
