Your mind is constantly telling you that you need to do more, but it's hard just to get out of bed in the morning. Chronic pain makes everyday tasks really hard. Everyone around you seems normal and you wonder how they have it all together. Maybe family and friends are supportive, but you worry about being a burden. Or maybe your life is good on paper and nobody sees your struggles, nobody sees your pain. As someone who has lived with chronic pain and anxiety, I know how hard life can get. I understand how isolating it can all be.

Anxiety & grief are common experiences, & I'm skilled at helping people heal their suffering.
Telephone Counselling for Women: I am a cross-cultural feminist therapist, weaving together ancient wisdom such as mindfulness, modern scientific discoveries, & a grassroots feminist approach. We both bring something special to the counselling relationship; you bring wisdom about yourself, I offer expertise on healing. Together we build a compassionate connection, & as a team we focus bringing balance into your life. As a telephone counsellor, I work with women across the globe. Research shows that telephone counselling is as effective as in-person support; it is convenient for women with time constraints, mobility issues, & those with limited access to quality therapy.

I have a special interest in working with young adults on self-esteem, confidence, anxiety, LGBTQI+ issues and experiences, relationships, sexuality, and gender identity.
*CURRENTLY ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS* Navigating mental health struggles in young adulthood can feel overwhelming and isolating. As a queer individual, my lived experiences have led me to develop a warm, compassionate, and understanding perspective. As a counsellor, this enables me to hold a non-judgmental and thoughtful space for the people I work with and can help them feel seen, heard, and not alone.

I often see people with issues relating to anxiety, self-esteem, depression, and relationships.
My style is calm, curious, and nonjudgemental. To deepen your self-understanding and make sense of things, we can discuss your perspectives, emotions, experiences, and give your unconscious or implicit memory a voice. We can also explore more practical information and strategies. Like, how our minds and bodies react to stress, and skills for regulating emotions and managing relationships. My approach pulls from many therapeutic modalities and utilizes techniques supported by research and my experience.

Are you struggling with stress, anxiety, people-pleasing and emotion regulation? Do you feel like you’re not quite good enough, you can never actually reach your goals, or you just can’t seem to do “life” right? Maybe you experienced trauma from growing up in a household with emotionally immature parents. Maybe you have late-diagnosed (or undiagnosed) ADHD, and chronic feelings of being “defective” loom over you constantly. You need a therapist who will help you actually PROCESS what's going on, not just listen. You need somebody who can hold you accountable to making real change in your life, and call you on your shit.

I have experience with those who have addictive behaviours, borderline personality disorder, bipolar disorder, ADHD, negative self-talk, individuals in cancer treatment, anxiety, depression, and general life stress.
Accepting new clients! I believe in supporting individuals on their journey to learn to regulate and separate their illnesses from their self-concept. I believe that therapy is a collaborative process. I like to provide my clients with strength and values-based therapy that will lead my clients to self-acceptance. Shame is rampant and stops our ability to feel worthy. I want to help my clients reduce shame and guilt leading to being able to meet the eyes of a loved one and see the positive reflection when that someone looks at them.

Anxiety Counsellors

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
