Often during the stress and struggles in life, Christians get lost in their faith. Do you want to have a deeper understanding of how your Christian faith intersects with anxiety, stress and trouble? It is hard to know where to turn for helpful, practical advice and guidance.

Have you lost someone or something important in your life? Perhaps you’ve experienced an unwanted change or one that is not what you anticipated. From losing a loved one to changes in relationships, career, or other life circumstances, life can feel harder than it once was. Sadness, anxiety, overwhelm, or feeling “stuck” make it difficult to cope and move forward. It can feel like no one sees or understands your struggles. But there is hope. As a therapist who has navigated my own life transitions, I support you in finding your way through this wilderness experience. Together we will work on a plan to help you adjust and grow.

Being human isn't always a walk in the park. Maybe you’re feeling numb and finding it difficult to connect with others. Maybe your mind is swirling with thoughts and you're feeling overwhelmed. Maybe you’re anxious and having a hard time finding solid ground. Or maybe you're dealing with the impact of past traumas. Whatever you’re experiencing, you don't have to walk it alone. I work with clients 18+ from a body-centred approach using a combination of Gestalt therapy and expressive art. My work is trauma-informed and a safe place for those who identify as non-binary and LGBTQIA+

We support folk experiencing existential crisis, complex trauma, depression, anxiety, grief, relationship issues (including couples counselling), perinatal mental health concerns and more.
If you're feeling disconnected, distracted, and detached from your life, it may be time to look at why. Why can't I connect, why am I not able to just "get over" my past, or why does it all feel so meaningless? Maybe there are other questions, like “what am I doing with my life” or “who do I want to be?”. It’s okay to take time that's just for you, to look at your life and see both the big picture and explore the often overlooked details. With the right support, you can feel more present, connected, and in control of your life.

Do you find yourself missing out on things because of anxiety and self-doubt? In today’s world of social media, comparison, and 24/7 news updates it’s understandable that as humans we’re feeling more overwhelmed, doubtful and on-edge than ever. Our brains are designed to keep us safe, not happy, and therefore, it’s understandable that anxiety gets the best of us sometimes! With the proper knowledge and tools, we can learn to better understand our anxious brain and develop a healthier relationship with anxiety and worry that will allow us to live a full and meaningful life.

Living a life where you're dealing with anxiety alongside symptoms of obsessions and compulsions can be quite scary. Navigating these experiences can become less intimidating when we gain an understanding of what we're going through and we have the support to take deliberate steps towards addressing it. There may be instances where those in your life don't fully understand what you are going through, leading you to keep your intrusive thoughts and compulsive urges to yourself. It's important to know that you're not alone, as these symptoms are more common than you might realize.

Whatever you are experiencing in your world, be it individual fear, anxiety, stress or family issues, sometimes coping mechanisms cease to work.
I have a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology as well as courses in Art Therapy. As a Psycho-educational Consultant with the local school board for a number of years, I gained experience in assessment and counselling. I currently work under Dr. Pati Beaudoin (C.Psych.) and support my clients who are ready to embrace their work within a nonjudgmental and supportive therapeutic relationship. I am also currently a graduate level student in a post-graduate art therapy program under the supervision of Shona Collision, RCAT and Amber Channell, RCAT, working towards my Professional Canadian certification in this area.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
