You know your child best and when your gut feelings tell you that something is going on with your child, it’s time to act on that hunch. My practice is devoted to art and play-based therapies using evidence-based theories and approaches. Clients work at their own pace to creatively explore, understand their own strengths, and implement learned strategies for managing anxiety, stress, school, social concerns, big emotions, grief, gender/orientation and life transitions. I will gently, creatively and compassionately support and nurture your child to overcome their challenges and find their own path to well-being.

I enjoy working with people of all ages. I have witnessed how art therapy can help people coping with life changes and challenges such as grief, loss, illness, injury, relationship and family issues, academic and professional pressures, stress, anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, sexuality and life transitions. Therapy, enhanced by the use of art therapy and mindfulness meditation (if desired) can help people process their emotions around difficult life situations and conditions and help people to heal, focus on living their authentic lives and thrive.

You will no longer need to worry about letting others – or yourself – down.
Are you feeling stressed or working about too much in your life, or perhaps frustrated and stuck in your personal or work relationships? Perhaps a past negative experience is making you feel unable to move forward. Many people who are struggling with uncertainty have a hard time knowing what direction to go in. It may be that you’ve tried to handle things on your own, or put off reaching out for support because you feel you should be able to work through your challenges by yourself. Sometimes everyone around you seems to have answers, but all you feel is confused. Mostly, you don’t want to let others down and feel that you might.

Things like self-criticism, difficult relationships (both current and past), stress and anxiety, trauma, feeling down, lost or just plain stuck.
I love working with young adults, as well as supporting individuals through pregnancy, early parenthood and beyond. Becoming a parent is profoundly life-changing. While we anticipate the joys of parenthood, we don't always expect for it to feel this hard. It can bring up intense, sometimes scary or confusing feelings. It can be overwhelming and lonely. I provide a safe, nonjudgmental space for you to understand, process and cope with the changes in your life. By talking about your experiences, you can feel less alone and less overwhelmed, and together we can find ways for you to feel more grounded again.

Life changes, anxiety, depression, ADHD, ASD, PTSD, bipolar disorders and thought disorders can all seem overwhelming but the quality of life for individuals experiencing these struggles can be vastly improved through cognitive behavioural strategies I provide.
Now accepting new clients. I’ve been fortunate enough to work with adults who need help in building their resilience following life altering changes as well as life-long struggles. Having worked in organ transplant and bariatric surgery units, alcohol and drug treatment clinics, psychiatric facilities, outpatient clinics, post-secondary and military institutions, I feel confident to work with most individuals.

The mental health professionals at The Dot are trained in many different types of therapy that can help with issues related to trauma, grief, relationship issues (yes we do couples counselling) depression, anxiety and more.
If you've been powering through, staying strong and carrying on, but now you're barely getting by and you're tired of feeling like you're not really living your life, it might be time for outside support. The benefit of therapy is that it's a time where you get to focus on yourself, to look at your life, and to get an outside perspective on how it could be different. You don't have to just endure, with the right support, you can heal from the past, and move forward towards a better future.

We’re living in a new era of self-growth expectations so you’ve likely heard these common psychotherapy buzzwords: “attachment style”, “boundaries”, “self-care”, “mindfulness”, and “toxic relationships”. Has anyone ever actually explained the deep nuance and depth of these terms? As a therapist, I want to help you make sense of your current circumstance and guide you through self-exploration, self-awareness, and insight so we can apply therapeutic tools to your unique situation.

At all stages of life individuals and families can find themselves wanting change. Approaches to counselling need to fit the needs of the individuals looking for support. My practice focuses primarily on supporting children, teens and young adults navigate issues related to relationships, family dynamics, self identity, anxiety and stress. Young children often have difficulty expressing themselves verbally. Children are invited to express themselves in counselling through art, puppetry, sand and play.

Psychotherapy literally means "Healing the Soul." Our personalities and the world around us are multifaceted and often mysterious. Exploring the mystery of who we are can bring clarity and meaning to our lives, our relationship with the world, and open new perspectives and possibilities in how we live. I have worked and studied in many areas including social work, philosophy, music, martial arts and shamanic practices. I use a wide range of modalities depending on the needs, uniqueness and preferences of each person. My therapy training includes Existential-Integrative psychotherapy which emphasizes the search for authenticity, meaning and wholeness in our lives.

Whether you are experiencing affects of trauma or having difficulty managing your anxiety and depressive symptoms I can help.
Often it is difficult to prioritize our needs and reach out for help when we are struggling. I can understand that taking the first step towards seeking support is not always easy. I can provide a safe non judgmental space to all my clients. I take my time in completing the intake process and listen to all your needs. I can offer 90 minute sessions as I understand that 1 hour is usually not enough to share all about your issues and build rapport with someone you are meeting for the first time. I hold my clients' hands through this process so they can trust me to help and support them.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
