You may also benefit from learning practical strategies for anxiety, stress and/or low mood.
Separation & divorce is not something you considered when you and your partner were planning your lives together. Unfortunately, divorce is common and is an incredibly painful process which you can't typically prepare for. It can generate intense emotions such as anger, confusion, betrayal, loneliness, and hopelessness. Even if you know it's the right decision, you will likely be experiencing grief over what you had hoped your relationship would be. Co-parenting is another level to manage. This process can make you question who you are, and what your life will look like moving forward.

Anxiety, invalidation, depression, and overwhelm, may have major needs worth supporting. I've noticed overthinking, numbing, avoidance, ongoing suffering from trauma, or imbalances in mind and body may surface. Most clients discover what is most fulfilling and transformative only during deeper reflection or exploration of their needs. Come find what you value, how to better express your needs, and discover how to help yourself. Feeling lost, unsupported, and uncertain is natural, but you don't need to stay stuck. Regardless of the reason, I’m glad you found your way here to connect and find your authentic path forward.

Life can sometimes be tricky to navigate. One day you're feeling great, and the next everything comes crashing down. Seeing a therapist during stressful times provides support, a fresh perspective, and someone to listen when you need to voice your struggles. Also, you don't have to wait until things are bad to see someone! Talking to someone (like me) and getting on solid ground when things are going okay in your life can really help to keep you level for when life throws you a curveball. I offer therapy for a number of different situations, from personal growth, anxiety, depression or grief, to LGBTQ+ specific challenges.

I specialize in helping people who are struggling with addiction issues and/or anxiety and mood disorders. I really enjoy working with ‘stuck’ clients. Those people who know they want or need change but aren’t sure how to get there. You are not broken, and you do not need to be fixed. You might be feeling a little lost though. Let me serve as a guide to walk with you and show you some possible ways out. You don't need to commit to any long term therapy or all the 'what ifs' at this point. All you need to do is reach out and make that first connection. Let's have a conversation about what's going on.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
