You might feel trapped in patterns of avoidance: putting things off, withdrawing from relationships, or relying on alcohol, cannabis, or screens to cope, while anxiety and self-doubt build underneath. You may understand yourself well, yet still find it hard to follow through or make lasting changes. I work with thoughtful, capable people who feel stuck despite insight. I'm active, engaged and transparent. Together, we'll look at the patterns that keep you disengaged or overwhelmed, and how they developed. This is not just about coping better, but about understanding and changing the ways you relate to yourself and others.

Clients often come to me for social anxiety, avoidance, emotional withdrawal, alcohol or cannabis use, neurodivergence and giftedness. Our work focuses on reducing avoidance and inhibitions, improving follow-through, and building more steady, connected relationships and daily functioning. I also work with parents of adult children struggling to launch.

My training includes a Diploma in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy from the CTP, an Addictions Careworker Diploma from McMaster University, and an Online Addiction Medicine Diploma from the British Columbia Centre on Substance Use. I also hold a Master’s from King’s College London and am currently a candidate at the Toronto Institute of Psychoanalysis (TIP).

Groups

Sober(ish) Peer Support Group for Women

Hosted by

Annina Schmid

This online group is a peer support group for adult women who want to reduce their use of alcohol, cannabis, or other substances. Group currently runs online via Zoom every other Thursday, 5:30-7pm. Cost is $75 per person per meeting/ $150 per month, unless the person is financially vulnerable, in which case a pay-what-you-can agreement can be put in place. Group members are strongly encouraged to participate in regular individual therapy in addition to their participation in group.

This group is a peer support group for young adult men (typically mid-twenties to early forties) who find themselves without a clear life purpose or career, feeling somewhat disconnected from “real life” and are financially and / or emotionally dependent on their parents. Group currently runs in person weekly on Wednesdays, 1-2pm. Cost is $50 per person per meeting/ $200 per month, unless the person is financially vulnerable, in which case a pay-what-you-can agreement can be put in place. Group members are strongly encouraged to participate in individual therapy in addition to their group participation.
