Natalie is a registered social worker with 10+ years of experience working with individuals, families, and children. With an extensive trauma background, she specializes in working with people who have experienced abuse, or who struggle with self-esteem, anger management, communication and conflict resolution in their relationships. The effects of trauma can be unpredictable and persistent, often intruding on our relationships with others, our perception of ourselves, and our overall sense of well-being. Connecting with the right therapist can help you to process, understand and heal from these experiences.

I particularly find focusing on the following areas rewarding: Anger management and increasing emotional regulation; Anxiety, depression, ADHD/ADD, and family relationships; and engaging in Trauma-informed treatment for young people who have endured trauma and/or abuse.
My name is Tanya and I am a licensed clinical psychologist in the province of Ontario. I work primarily with children, adolescents, and their families to help support them through the transitions and changes that all families encounter - whether it's the start or change of school, changes within the family structure, or changes associated with puberty and development, etc.

Are you quick to anger and can’t understand why? Tired of constantly hurting your loved ones? For men, anger is the most socially accepted emotion to express, but when you feel out of control and it’s too big or out of place, it comes with consequences, both external and internal. However, this anger is trying to tell you something, to alert you to important needs being ignored, shamed or suppressed. Many of us have learned to approach relationships in a way that leads to resentment, jealousy, hatred, fear or shame. Through greater access you can shift old patterns and evolve into a more genuine fulfilled version of yourself.

I help folks explore their identity and self-esteem, build relationship skills and conflict-resolution styles, and understand anger, depression, anxiety, and trauma.
Are you seeking a therapist who respects your complex life experiences and does not ask you to fit in a box? As a psychotherapist and advocate for social justice, I bring a unique perspective shaped by my experiences as an immigrant person of colour from a collectivistic culture. Drawing from my personal encounters with racism, sexism, trauma, immigration, and acculturation, I strive to create a safe and inclusive space for all. My approach is person-centred and strength-based, aimed at breaking mental health stigmas. As a South Asian woman, I cherish the cultural values of storytelling, collaboration, and self-compassion.

Separation & divorce is not something you considered when you and your partner were planning your lives together. Unfortunately, divorce is common and is an incredibly painful process which you can't typically prepare for. It can generate intense emotions such as anger, confusion, betrayal, loneliness, and hopelessness. Even if you know it's the right decision, you will likely be experiencing grief over what you had hoped your relationship would be. Co-parenting is another level to manage. This process can make you question who you are, and what your life will look like moving forward.

Hi There! Life doesn't have to be full of grudges, anxiety, anger and grief all the time; or perhaps just passing by because of poor relationships and traumatic experiences that control us. I believe in our inner strength and am passionate about personal growth and healing. I think that we are all strong enough to move forward in our journey of healing, self-discovery and personal growth. I believe our first instinct as human beings is to seek contact and comforting connection.

Anger Management Counsellors

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
