Healthy relationships (including the one with ourselves) are necessary for humans to thrive. What characterizes a healthy relationship, and what influences our ability to participate in them is explored in therapy. Human beings crave attachment and connection but also engage in behaviors that can be hurtful and damaging. Therapy is about healing from the past, learning about boundaries and the process of repair, understanding patterns, self reflection, and working towards goals that are aligned with our values, desires, and needs. I am passionate about working with people of all walks of life who want to create meaningful change.

I am a certified life coach and help people work towards goals that will help them navigate life's challenges. I believe people have the power to overcome many of their struggles through self exploration. Many times we find ourselves at crossroads in life, or don't know what we're looking for, or simply feel stuck in the present circumstances. We may not understand why we are staying stuck in unhelpful patterns or are trying to find the motivation to reach our goals but nothing seems to work. Talking to someone that you can trust can help you uncover what is contributing to how you are feeling and what you can do about it.

I work with people who struggle with a tapestry of emotions, facing diverse challenges ranging from navigating life transitions, grappling with anxiety, depression, to seeking a deeper understanding of themselves. I strive to connect clients with their authentic selves, understanding their behaviors, emotions, and thoughts on a deeper level, often rooted in cultural dynamics. As a Person of Color, specifically of South Asian descent, I am able to connect and understand the dynamics many individuals and families face.

NOW ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS. Clarity Counsellors have a minimum of a Master’s degree in the counselling field. This comes with 7 years of formal education, plus multiple practicums where skills are developed to ensure clients are getting the services they need. Our educations are supported by our own journeys, too. We have been there; explored sexuality, experienced trauma, lived through relationship breakdowns/heartbreak, built self-esteem, grieved a loss, and worked through difficult parenting situations. We know what the work is like, and how it feels to come out the other side. We want to help you do the same.

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
