As a social worker for over 28 years in hospital outpatient mental health clinics, I have supported children, youth and their families with a range of mental health disorders and struggles. Through my practice, I have witnessed the impact of hidden trauma in many of these individuals who have experienced ineffective outcomes from traditional ‘talk therapy’. As a result, this has led me to explore further and gain a better understanding into the science and neurobiology of trauma and dissociation.
Through the use of body oriented therapeutic approaches such as EMDR therapy and the basic principles of Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, I start from a mindset that appreciates the organicity of the body, the uniqueness of the person and incorporates play based approaches to work collaboratively with my clients.
I aim to offer a warm and caring approach that fosters compassion and strives to bring out the strengths and resilient qualities of all individuals. Together let’s walk along this road with an openness for change and a hope to foresee a future with opportunities to flourish.
