Feeling at war with your body? It’s not your fault! You have likely grown up in an environment with harmful messaging around body size and weight. Seeking counselling can be an important and courageous step towards healing the wounds and mending the relationship between body, mind and spirit. I want to first acknowledge you for taking a step in kindness towards yourself and reaching out for support. I focus my counselling work around helping folks with their relationship to their bodies, body image, food, eating, and movement. I take an anti-oppressive, Body Positive approach to my work, centering anti-diet culture and anti-racism.
Together, we can reflect on experiences of shame and trauma related to the body and help unpack some of the unhelpful and harmful messaging that may have impacted us throughout our lives. I also aim to take an intersectional approach to issues of weight-stigma, acknowledging other identities and how they intersect with experiences of violence and oppression.
Maybe you are someone who has spent years, even decades, restricting calories with the aim to shrink your body, maybe you are someone struggling with binge-eating, maybe you are looking for support in navigating conversations around body and food with your children, teens, parents, family or friends.
