I recognize and appreciate that starting therapy can feel worrisome. A successful therapeutic alliance requires a strong sense of safety and security before diving into a personal narrative about trauma or relationship concerns. The therapeutic journey evolves with consistent and effective dialogue, skills, and resources demonstrated throughout the therapeutic process. You are the captain of your ship, and I am privileged and honoured to sail alongside you.

“When an inner situation is not made conscious, it appears outside of you as fate" (Carl Jung). You have all that you need, and my role is to support you on the path to accessing it. Once we reconnect and relax our nervous system we can ask the deeper questions and get in touch with inner wisdom. My role as a therapist is to be a clear mirror, to hold the container that leads you back to your true self.

It is through faith placed in our support network, that we allow others to walk alongside us. Thank you for trusting me to walk with you through this season in your life.

When you feel all hope is lost, there is STILL hope! Vincent van Gogh said, “There may be a great fire in our soul, yet no one ever comes to warm himself at it, and the passers-by see only a wisp of smoke.” I consider my job to hear and feel with you the great fire of your soul—your struggles, feelings of hopelessness and worry, feeling controlled by your emotions and past trauma, repeating patterns of conflict, battling addiction, or fighting an inner battle that others may not fully understand or appreciate.

This is not how you imagined your maternity leave. Instead of feeling happy like you’re supposed to, you are anxious and always on the verge of tears. There’s a constant nagging feeling like you’re not good enough for your baby. And let’s not talk about the exhaustion. It scares you to hold your baby, but at the same time you can’t let go. So, you end up holding her during nap times…and never find the time to attend to our own needs. When you look in the mirror, it’s like you are looking at a stranger. It is no longer a matter of doing your best, it’s about surviving this season of life. Or is this how it will be forever?

Trauma can take many forms and have profound impacts. Whether it shows up in physical (such as panic, or exhaustion), emotional (like feeling anxious, sad, angry, or out of control) or more outward manifestations (the relationships we find ourselves in, or the cycles we seem stuck in), the truth is that trauma, and the things that we have gone through, can continue to show up in our lives and our systems for a long time. You might be at a place where you are ready to identify, unpack, and untether your trauma to your current and future life so that you can begin to feel a greater sense of control, freedom, and peace.

I work primarily with adults who face challenges associated with traumatic stress, depression, and anxiety. My warm demeanor and gentle repose enhances clients’ abilities to tune into their natural healing capacities. Twenty years of formal meditation training has shaped my therapeutic viewpoints, and I align with relational frame theory (RFT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT): third wave mindfulness-based behavioural therapies. I also work from a somatic, brain-body perspective, using Brainspotting (BSP) to help clients release deeper held traumas. Principles of hypnotherapy also inform my practice.

How can I find a therapist in Alberta?
Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or province where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
How much does therapy cost?
Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $3200 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
