Anxiety, intrusive thoughts, & emotion or behaviour difficulties can be extremely isolating, leading to feelings of shame and secrecy. Everyday "normal" functions might feel tough. Things as necessary as eating, moving, & relationships might feel confusing, overwhelming, or scary. It may feel like your nervous system is hijacked & you react in unintended ways. One's inner world becomes chaos, while those outside say "it's in your head". Trauma informed therapy recognizes that experiences shape our symptoms/coping strategies. Working together we calm the nervous system, develop new ways to cope, and discover new ways of being.

With 14 years of experience as the head counsellor at The Michener Institute, I offer professional support for anxiety, depression, grief, trauma and family challenges. My use of both Gestalt Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) gives me a wide range of options for support for both individual and couples. Gestalt focuses on the 'here and now,' our body experiences and childhood patterns and helps us be present in our relationships. CBT has been rigorously tested in over 1000 studies, and is a therapy that supports depression, attention deficit disorder (ADD), panic and anxiety, phobias and stress.

Hey, my name is Curt. I have been working as a counsellor for the past six years. The office I work out of is near Christie Subway Station. My main experiences have been with people with substance use issues and/or addictions, who are wanting to make some changes in their life. I am trauma-informed, non-judgmental, anti-oppressive and always support clients on whatever goals they want to work on. I have also worked with folks from the LGBTQ2S+ community.
