Too often, people endure their obstacles alone, convinced that they must shoulder their burdens in silence. Whether it's a child struggling with emotional regulation, a teenager navigating the complexities of anxiety amid life's changes, or an adult wrestling with depression, everyone can benefit from specialized support at various points in their lives.

Accepting NEW clients. Our work as parents never really ends, and often takes us on journeys we never anticipated. Perhaps getting here was one of those journeys. As a Child & Adolescent Therapist and a Clinical Social Worker, I've been working with kids and their families as they navigate challenging situations for over 14 years. My approach is family-centered, mindfulness-based, and trauma-informed, with a sprinkle of creativity and silliness on the side. After all, play is the natural language for kids and teens, and frankly, adults need more of that too!

I work with children, adolescents, and adults. In my work with children we play, because for a child play is a way of making sense of his/her world and expressing what is of vital importance to them. The elements of play are clues that communicate what the child feels, what they hope for, and where the conflict is in their world that is troubling them. My work with adolescents leans more towards talk therapy. I engage with adolescent with the aim of helping them reflect on their own mind, the minds of others, helping them grasp what is stable during a time of shifting self image.

Everything can be broken down into small and manageable steps, and even small shifts can produce significant change and offer much needed relief. If you or your loved one (child, adolescent, or partner) seems to be stuck in repeating behaviours, or patterns that are stretching your patience and energy reserves, you've come to the right place. I'm here to help shoulder some of the emotional weight you've been carrying, and to let you know there is hope, tangible tools and strategies, and positive change on the other side of bravely stepping into this process.

I have specific experience in child and adolescent mental health, grief and loss in families including pregnancy and infant loss, and in high conflict relationships.
Adults, children, and their families are continuing to cope with tremendous stress since the pandemic, and this sometimes shows up in mood and anxiety issues that may not resolve on their own. You may have noticed an increase in concern for the mental well-being of yourself and those most important to you. Moreover, if you have experienced trauma, grief, family discord or other big life challenges, knowing what to do and how to heal gets overwhelming, no matter how recent these events occurred. Clients are typically looking to relieve emotional distress, resolve difficult circumstances, and find hope even when it seems far away.

With over six years of experience in the realms of child and adolescent mental health,I have honed my skills in addressing a wide array of issues.
Do you sometimes think to yourself "my child's behaviour is out of control!". Do you think "I want to help my child so desperately but somehow it feels like I end up making things worse" ? Maybe you blame yourself and wonder "where did I go wrong?". Maybe other people in your child's life blame you. You know something needs to change but don't know where else to look. You've exhausted all the options you know of- you've spoken to other moms, teachers, maybe other therapists. You worry about your child's happiness and stability if something doesn't change. This is hard stuff! I want you to know, you're in the right place!

Teen Counsellors

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
