I have the experience of 25 years of counselling therapy. I'm a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP). Somatic Experiencing is based on the idea that trauma (which is not an ailment or disease but an instinctive bodily response to threat) can lead to dysfunction in the nervous system which in turn leads to many personal and relationship issues.
Body-centered psychotherapy is an effective way to address the effects of trauma - even the traumas that are a part of everyday life.
