I work from an Adlerian, client-centred, trauma-informed, and family systems perspective.
Do you feel that life gets you going in circles, leaving you distressed, stuck, or barely holding on? You may be asking yourself: How can I deal with my constant worrying, fears or need for perfection? What can I do to better manage my kids, relate to them, or give them the guidance they need? Or how can I stop my negative thoughts, feelings, nightmares or flashbacks? If you're finding yourself grasping for answers, I'm here to say there's hope! I believe our mental health is an ongoing journey, with its ebbs and flows along life's path. As a fellow companion walking alongside you, we can work together to navigate a way forward.

From a positive psychology Adlerian perspective, I believe that everyone has a fundamental need to connect with others, and that people thrive when they feel accepted, understood, and achieve a sense of belonging.
Feeling stuck? My approach is to build on your strengths, moving you from where you are to where you want to be. I endeavour to enhance the therapeutic relationship by creating a caring and nurturing space for you to express feelings, emotions, behaviours, and relationships. My compassionate nature brings to the counselling relationship the sense of safety, support, and encouragement you need. When facing difficult life tasks, I provide the encouragement to explore new ways to approach your concerns, help shift perspectives and create fresh insights.

I approach counselling from an anti-oppressive, feminist, and Adlerian approach.
“It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.” I offer counselling services through an anti-oppressive lens, which takes in the larger contexts around the individual. I strive to create a welcoming, supportive environment where we can collaborate and create a path toward awareness and empathy while implementing practical skills.

My approach to counselling is a psychodynamic, person-centred, and trauma-informed approach. The psychodynamic approach can help us gain new insights into our lives, and by integrating art into the session, it can become a powerful mind-body-oriented resource for individuals to look into themselves, and at their concerns, from a different angle.

We are not always aware of just how much of our life is impacted by our childhood. Because of this, we don't realize we are surviving with the limited resources afforded to us in our upbringing to avoid facing the deep emotional betrayals and abandonment that has framed our negative view of self, others, and God. You're unsatisfied with your current life, and something is nagging at you. Depending on our experiences, there may be this constant stirring in you that is hindering you from living the life you were made to live. Things can change, and you can thrive!

Grief is a natural response to loss, which may include a range of emotions such as sadness, anger, guilt, longing, and often involves adjusting to life without the presence of what or who has been loss. Grief is also a highly individual experience, with no set timeline or "right" way to grieve. However, if you are struggling to cope with your loss, I am here to guide you through your journey of grief, helping you navigate the complex emotions, coming to terms with loss and finding ways to integrate it into your life.

You might have been putting most of your energy and simply trying to get through the day for a long time. Being overwhelmed by fears, exhaustion and emotional isolation has become your norm. You have tried hard to change but have not been able to make it last. Escaping might give you relief but you know it is not a permanent solution. You tried to be seen but only part of you was accepted. You have pushed anger away and it came back even stronger. However, deep down, you know you are more than your pain. You have not given up yet as you are still seeking. You are yearning to live your life vibrantly.

Hello! As a South Asian woman of colour, I have grown up and experienced living in a multicultural society, balancing the different identities that may come from being a child of immigrants as well as having peers of differing backgrounds. This has helped me develop a unique understanding of the experiences of those similar and different to me. I understand that our cultural upbringings, beliefs, and values may both help and hinder us in some ways as we grow into who we are today. We are made up of so many parts that make us who we are, and that is so important to understand and work with for your mental health and wellbeing.

Adlerian Counsellors

How does Adlerian psychology work?

In the framework of Adlerian therapy, people are motivated by a sense of belonging and community, which drives them to surmount feelings of inferiority so as to contribute to their society; fulfilling these desires can help people flourish. Adlerian therapy proceeds in four stages—engagement, assessment, insight, and reorientation—in an overall effort to understand the client’s past and to achieve their present-day humanistic goals.

Is Adlerian therapy humanistic?

Yes, Adlerian psychology is humanistic; it focuses on the whole person, emphasises their strengths rather than just their symptoms, and centers them in determining how they can grow and flourish. This school of thought informed the work of Abraham Maslow, who went on to develop humanistic psychology.

How long does Adlerian therapy take?

Adlerian therapy is a short-term, goal-oriented form of therapy that takes around 15 to 20 weekly sessions. Of course, some people may be in therapy for a shorter or longer time frame; length depends on the individual and the problem or condition they wish to treat. Clients can ask their therapist about the timeline for treatment before they begin and check in periodically to ensure that they’re on the same page in terms of progress.

Is Adlerian therapy evidence based?

There is not as much evidence to support the effectiveness of Adlerian therapy as there is for other types of therapy such as cognitive behavioural therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. But Adlerian therapy may be the right therapy for some people—whether they’re seeking to treat mental disorders or achieve self-growth—especially those looking for a holistic approach that emphasises relationships, community, self-worth, and purpose.
