People begin to heal when they feel seen, heard and understood in a no-judgment zone. Anxiety, Depression, ADHD, Perfectionism, and Attachment Trauma are the areas that I specialize in. My practice philosophy believes in the importance in getting to the root (the 'why') of the challenges that you are experiencing; which usually stem from childhood. I can help you to process and make connections between your history and the impact it may be having on you now; learn effective ways of coping, and shift maladaptive thoughts (i.e. strong inner critic) and behaviours (i.e procrastination) to ones that are more adaptive and healthy.

I take on a wide variety of clients but I often focus on relational/relationship difficulties, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and stress, among others. Additionally, I have experience working with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and other learning differences. I use a collaborative and empathic approach to explore each client's worldview and build strong therapeutic relationships. Being authentic with clients is of the utmost importance to me, so I strive to be present and genuine in each moment, allowing us to speak our minds freely and collaboratively.

If traumatic memories are the primary obstacle to better functioning I use EMDR and for clients who struggle with anxiety, insomnia, panic disorder, migraines, ADHD, chronic pain and emotional hyperarousal I find Neurofeedback most helpful.
My ideal psychotherapy client is an individual who is motivated to explore their inner world. Someone who willing to explore, and possibly reevaluate bedrock assumptions that play a major role in influencing our current attitudes and life choices. An ideal client also recognizes that a therapist's role is not to provide answers but rather to facilitate a process of self discovery which promotes emotional growth and lays the foundation for enduring change.

Congratulations on taking such an important step towards healing and personal growth! I look forward to providing you with a safe space to collaboratively explore your thoughts, emotions and experiences. Together, we will explore and address the root causes of your concerns, enabling you to move towards an authentic and meaningful life. I am honoured to partner with members of LGBTQ+ and racialized communities and endeavour to understand how experiences of marginalization and oppression impact you and your loved ones. I am also passionate about supporting clients with ADHD or those who identify as neurodivergent in some capacity.

Males young and old experience anxiety, depression, trauma and other mood issues, though are less likely to seek help. ADHD and LD’s disproportionately affect males, disrupting their goals and relationships. Young males must navigate contradictory messages about what it means to be a man while managing their own emotional health. These issues tend to be at their worst during transitional life stages, such as changing schools, entering the workforce, middle life, and in new relationships.

My goal as a therapist is to provide a relationship with each client that gives space to explore the impact of external stories and your internal worlds. I work mostly with neurodivergent individuals – people who self-identify as Autistic, ADHD, gifted, highly sensitive etc. – with interest in navigating the harmful impact of dominant social norms. My approaches are borrowed from Narrative Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Schema Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Mindfulness and Religion, with some influence from CBT and Art Therapy.

My name is Lisa and I offer mental health OT services for individuals with ADHD (or suspected ADHD), anxiety, self-esteem challenges, and other mental health symptoms. As someone who was diagnosed with ADHD as an adult, I understand some of the challenges of navigating mental health services and academic spaces without tailored support. If you experience difficulty in areas such as managing mental health symptoms, routine building, organization, procrastination, academic support, and completing daily tasks, then tailored OT support may be a good fit for you.

I conduct psychoeducational, ADHD and other neuropsychological assessments.
Every obstacle and difficulty has a meaning and function. Let me help you become aware, understand and grow from adversities. Clients often come with a preconceived notion that something is “wrong” with them or their choices. We will work together to understand what makes you "you" and understand your choices and decisions before we decide what you would like to shift or change. I help clients with anxiety, mood disorders, emotion regulation difficulties, psychosis, trauma, self-esteem and attachment issues as well as support people in their careers, including leadership coaching, managing work stress and assertiveness training.

I enjoy working with individuals with ADHD.
Psychotherapy is my second career, and that makes me stronger as a therapist. That's because, in addition to my academic qualifications and clinical training, my own lived experiences as a daughter, a wife and mother, a student, an employee and an entrepreneur help me relate to my clients in so many meaningful ways. Clients relate to my sense of humour, empathy, and desire for growth as a person and as a therapist. And they value my ability to get to the root of the issue and expertise in both practical problem-solving and supporting clients' growth.

I work with racialized, LGBTQ+, and immigrant communities, who are experiencing issues related to anxiety, depression, ADHD, and trauma related to their intersectional identities and experiences. I work well with individuals who are open to exploring their emotions and thoughts in a safe and non-judgmental space. They seek a therapeutic relationship where they can foster self-awareness, identify patterns of behavior that may no longer serve them, and cultivate healthier ways of relating to themselves and others. I encourage collaborative approaches with clients, and aid in facilitating their personal growth and empowerment.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
