I provide psychotherapy to adults experiencing mood and anxiety concerns, stress, ADHD and focusing challenges, identity concerns, interpersonal difficulties, attachment trauma, as well as to individuals who are undergoing life transitions/adjustments.
Are you feeling stuck, unfulfilled, or as though you aren't living authentically? I work closely with my clients to compassionately address issues of importance to them, such as identifying emotions and thought patterns, exploring difficult interpersonal dynamics, recognizing behavioural patterns and defenses, developing & implementing coping skills, deepening self-compassion, and making meaningful shifts in their lives. I am mindful that seeking out therapy and sharing your experiences feels vulnerable and intend to create a shared understanding of what may be happening for you in a non-judgmental way.

I often work alongside people who feel that they don’t quite fit in: Teens and young adults who would identify themselves as creatives, and who have a unique set of struggles and strengths. Some are dealing with issues related to identity and self-understanding, and others are doing their best to manage the depth and complexity of their emotional landscape. I see a lot of deep thinkers, over-analyzers, perfectionists, and clients battling self-doubt and imposter syndrome. Anxiety and/or ADHD symptoms can be intertwined with these struggles.

As a therapist, my fundamental goal is to help and encourage you to look at the difficult parts of your life that are holding you back, while simultaneously helping you to cultivate the skills to live your life in a manner that is mentally healthy and purpose driven. I work with people struggling with ADHD, addiction (specializing in cannabis), anxiety, and those having difficulty in their marriage or settling into a committed relationship. I also like to help people who feel lost in their life or who feel unfulfilled by their current profession and who hope to bring more meaning into their lives.

If traumatic memories are the primary obstacle to better functioning I use EMDR and for clients who struggle with anxiety, insomnia, panic disorder, migraines, ADHD, chronic pain and emotional hyperarousal I find Neurofeedback most helpful.
My ideal psychotherapy client is an individual who is motivated to explore their inner world. Someone who willing to explore, and possibly reevaluate bedrock assumptions that play a major role in influencing our current attitudes and life choices. An ideal client also recognizes that a therapist's role is not to provide answers but rather to facilitate a process of self discovery which promotes emotional growth and lays the foundation for enduring change.

I started Momentym Therapy to help those struggling with work/life balance issues, anxiety, depression, parenting challenges, career stress, and late ADHD diagnosis.
Feeling stuck? If you feel like someone juggling one too many plates in your day to day life, perhaps it’s time to make a change. Maybe you feel like you don’t know where to start, but you know you have to begin somewhere. Therapy can be that first step towards less stress and more support. When you’re struggling, it can feel impossible to move forward. When you’re struggling, it can leave you questioning who you are.

If you find yourself feeling tired of patterns that leave you feeling lost and defeated we can work together to uncover why. I work with individuals, couples and families. I am especially passionate about working with individuals with ADHD and helping parents and teens/kids to help them reconnect. I bring an open and curious stance to therapy as I love getting to know people's hopes and fears and strengths (I promise you have them!). I take a client-centred approach which means you have a lot of the answers, they may just be buried under painful emotions and conflicting feelings that need some special attention.

Life can be difficult to manage under the best of circumstances, adding ADHD into the mix creates a new set of challenges that we shouldn’t have to face on our own. Our emotions, relationships, and self-concept may be disrupted by feelings of guilt, shame, and frustration, leaving us feeling overwhelmed and stuck. I can help you feel more regulated and in control, allowing you to uncover your strengths, improve your relationships, and better manage the demands of daily life. My approach is trauma-informed, meaning that we'll identify your “bad habits” as learned adaptive responses to a maladaptive environment, not character flaws.

Have you experienced trauma and now you struggle with anxiety, depression, dysregulation, addiction, grief or ADHD? Is it showing up in your day-to-day life, relationships or your work? Do you feel exhausted, overwhelmed, frustrated or burnt out by just making it through the day? Do you question if it’s possible to resolve trauma and wonder if therapy will actually help? Now more than ever, individuals are feeling uncertain about how to cope in healthier, more helpful ways, and how to actually process their trauma(s). I believe it shouldn’t be so hard to feel safe, secure, and stable, and reach your full potential.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
