As a fellow ADHD-er, I can also help you step away from your overwhelming thoughts and focus on taking committed action towards your goals.
Why does being me feel so difficult sometimes? If you’re asking this question, perhaps it’s because what used to help you cope with life is no longer working. Breaking generational patterns is hard, yet so rewarding! This is a unique journey for women of color, and sometimes we need to be held in ways only other women of color can understand. I can help you process intergenerational trauma and unlearn harmful patterns, while holding space for the impact of colonial oppression on your mental health.

Although I work comfortably with a wide range of issues, my primary focus is adult ADHD and neurodivergence, complex trauma, couples/relational work, and explorations of gender/sexuality.
Many folks come to me feeling overwhelmed, confused, or disconnected from their emotions or behaviours. They find themselves feeling triggered in relationships, or shy away from sharing their authentic selves with others. Some have significant struggles with their focus and can't consistently complete tasks they know are well within their abilities. When we don't know how or why this happens, a sense of powerlessness and shame creeps into our lives. Trust me, I understand confronting these issues is challenging and vulnerable. Changing these patterns is very possible and may be some of the most important work you do in your life.

People begin to heal when they feel seen, heard and understood in a no-judgment zone. Anxiety, Depression, ADHD, Perfectionism, and Attachment Trauma are the areas that I specialize in. My practice philosophy believes in the importance in getting to the root (the 'why') of the challenges that you are experiencing; which usually stem from childhood. I can help you to process and make connections between your history and the impact it may be having on you now; learn effective ways of coping, and shift maladaptive thoughts (i.e. strong inner critic) and behaviours (i.e procrastination) to ones that are more adaptive and healthy.

When we strive to be independent “high achievers”, it can feel natural to diminish and intellectualize emotions. We become skilled in managing the feelings of others, while minimizing our own needs. We might understand what is causing us pain, but feel stuck or overwhelmed about taking action. I offer non-judgemental space for individuals and couples to explore their experiences with nuance and compassion. My areas of focus are ADHD, relationships, perfectionism, anxiety, career concerns, racial identity, grief. Together, we'll cultivate resilience and self-awareness, moving you towards where you want to be.

My practice focusses on adults who are themselves living with high functioning autism and/or HSP and/or ADHD. The sessions provide opportunities to talk in detail about one’s own unique experiences living with ASD or ADHD with someone who gets you. Engaging guided explorations lead to the revelation of blind spots and the discovery of ways to see things from new perspectives. Collaborative development of tailor-made strategies helps with communication, boundary-setting and the management of daily challenges. Sessions are free from judgement and you are supported to work at your own pace.

My heart is for those who are overwhelmed, burnt out, stuck, struggling, and disconnected. Your story has made you who you are, but it doesn’t have to define your future. I believe you are the expert on your experience and my role is to help you find yourself again. During my years working with survivors of intimate partner violence, I developed a passion for supporting people through their personal journey of growth and healing. As a mother of four teens and young adults with ADHD and ASD, I am dedicated to helping individuals and families understand neurodiversity and learn to flourish.

I often work alongside people who feel that they don’t quite fit in: Teens and young adults who would identify themselves as creatives, and who have a unique set of struggles and strengths. Some are dealing with issues related to identity and self-understanding, and others are doing their best to manage the depth and complexity of their emotional landscape. I see a lot of deep thinkers, over-analyzers, perfectionists, and clients battling self-doubt and imposter syndrome. Anxiety and/or ADHD symptoms can be intertwined with these struggles.

Do you want to find a way out of the stress, fear, and sadness that you’re going through? Find some peace and comfort? Maybe you feel hopeless and overwhelmed. It can be scary and tiring, an uphill battle, and you feel like you will collapse and shatter at any time. When you face all this fatigue, despair, and frustration, you wish you could confide in a trusted person and get some support. I can be that support person for you, so that you can make sense of your world, find peace, and reclaim control. You don’t have to feel so helpless anymore.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
