Most of my clients are dealing with one or more of the following issues: anxiety, depression, ADHD, relationship issues, addiction, low self-esteem.
I tend to work with young adults who, in one way or another, are struggling to change. They have the frustrating sense that they are getting in their own way yet are unsure of what to do about it. Together, we deconstruct their defense mechanisms which, although protect them from unwanted feelings and experiences, ultimately stunt their growth.

I primarily draw from evidence-based approaches such as CBT, ACT, and DBT to support you with issues related to anxiety, depression, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), trauma, eating disorders, and emotion regulation difficulties.
Hi! I'm Villeena. I firmly believe everyone can lead fulfilling lives. Yet, when we find ourselves always struggling with difficult thoughts and emotions, we can feel trapped in our circumstances. Intense emotions and persistent thoughts can take us on an unpleasant ride, leaving us feeling exhausted. We become critical of ourselves for not being "good enough". We then become trapped in a vicious cycle that further isolates us from others and even ourselves. In therapy, I am to create space for your unwanted thoughts and emotions. Together, we will explore your goals, values, and strengths to help shape the life you want!

The best therapists are ones that have experienced many of the issues their clients come in with, and I would be no exception to that. Having overcome many struggles myself, and found ways to cope, I pass that knowledge onto my clients. I work differently than most counselors. I believe counselling should be short term. I want to bring you to a place to learn the tools to implement and then help yourself. I work primarily with anxiety, depression, panic attacks, phobias, OCD, eating disorders, relationship issues, and ADHD.

The variety of past counselling roles has provided me with extensive knowledge of mental health, addictions, ADHD, FASD, trauma, parenting, and family dynamics.
Life can be complicated no matter what your age is. Managing life transitions such as becoming a teenager or young adult, a parent, or change in any life routine can be difficult. You may be experiencing stress, anxiety, addiction, or relationship issues. Traumas and life stressors we experience can affect how we feel, think, and connect with others. I aim to help you connect with yourself and others in a way that makes you feel more content and confident in life.

I have worked with a diverse range of presenting issues within the school system, MCFD, and non-profit organizations, some of which include: anxiety, depression, OCD, autism spectrum disorder, learning disabilities, ADHD, eating disorders, stress and burnout, grief and loss, attachment, family dynamics, and parenting psychoeducation.
As a therapist, I am very detail-orientated and will utilize that ability to take the time to get to know your story and who you are without judgment. Others describe me as compassionate, ambitious, and honest, with a side of dry humour. I have experience working with a diverse range of clients including children, youth, adolescents, young adults, and adults.

I also work with neurodivergence (ND), especially discovering ND/ AuDHD/ autism/ ADHD traits in adulthood, perhaps related to parenting.
Do you want to feel better about yourself and your life? Are your frustrated with how you show up in relationships, work, life balance? Have you tried other therapy before, and you are still here, looking for a life that you love? Knowing something will make little difference when our bodies are convinced otherwise. This is why I primarily work somatically. When you have a new experience of yourself, in your body, in a way you may not have known was possible before, this will lead to lasting impact on how you function in this world.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
