From my personal battles and experiences with ADHD, anxiety, trauma, addiction and being bi-sexual I can intimately understand your life struggles.
Life doesn't unfold neatly; neither does healing. The complexities that life throws at you can feel very overwhelming. Yet these experiences, though challenging, are also avenues for positive change. Together we will not only explore these aspects but also unravel your strength and resilience that often remain hidden beneath the surface. Through your journey I aim to not only help you find relief from pain; but also to empower you to transform these challenges into stepping stones toward a brighter future, and a more Authentic YOU! I promise to provide a safe space where you feel accepted, heard, respected, supported and understood.

I love working with trauma and have specialized experience with first responders. I get how it changes the way you think, feel and act so can work with emotional dysregulation and behavioural issues too. Addiction is common, and often a way to cope, and it's the underlying issues I enjoy nurturing and healing. At times, I work with people struggling in relationships, sometimes with themselves, or as they adjust to relationship change or loss. Other times I support people as they navigate life transitions like employment changes, navigating pregnancy and parenthood, reconciling health issues, or effects of aging.

The clients I work with range from adolescents to adults, presenting concerns with depression, identity, addiction, anxiety, self-esteem, eating concerns, self-harm, perinatal mental health, and grief and loss.
Greetings, my name is Tasia and I am a Registered Provisional Psychologist in Alberta. I work from a compassionate, empathetic and honest perspective. I believe that the client is in control in the process of therapy, and I am merely a guide to support you in your journey. I recognize that there are times in our lives where we are faced with adversity and challenges. When these arise, it can be difficult to process and make sense of the concerns that we are faced with in our day to day lives. Sometimes, asking or seeking support can be difficult, but you have made a giant leap by looking at the profiles on this site!

In my work, I have been able to support my clients through depression, anxiety, emotional struggles, and post traumatic stress. I thoroughly enjoy working with adolescents and adults through all life stages and situations. I work primarily from a client centered perspective, meaning I believe that all people, regardless of their circumstances, have the ability within themselves to heal if given the proper tools and guidance. Attachment drives my clinical work, and I believe that healing happens in relationship both internally and within external relationships. I am also trained in the EMDR modality and DBT.

Society used to look at mental health issues as something to be ashamed of, but we don't have to any more. Mental health, like physical health, is something that absolutely everyone must work at to feel good. It's rewarding work, but it isn't always easy. Traumatic events or even just daily struggles can sometimes lead to addictions, poor relationships with others, or strong feelings of disconnection and worthlessness. The resources we need to stay balanced, to grow, and to feel whole are within each of us, but sometimes we have trouble finding them on our own.

Changes in one's life can result in many possibilities that can be overwhelming for some, and exciting for others. To manage the changes that occur in our life, we create our own personal safety net as a means for protection and safety from the potential dangers that can be brought on from change. However, an over reliance on these personal safety nets may lead to feeling like being imprisoned and trapped inside one's shell. This could eventually result in feelings of depression and anxiety.

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
