My main interest is in mindfulness-based therapeutic interventions including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
Sometimes life can feel complicated. So you are not alone if you are needing help. Countless things happen that interrupt our ability to be happy and be free. My passion is to help you to live a more meaningful and satisfying life in healthy ways. This may begin with the relationship you have with yourself or with others in your life. I have a particular interest in working with clients looking to go deeper into their spirituality in discovering their meaning and purpose for their lives.

I am able to support people using a trauma informed lens, applying principles of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to challenges.
Have you experienced the cycle of negative self talk that keeps you stuck in your head, or have had other experiences of anxiety and depression? Have some of these symptoms stemmed from childhood abuse or other traumatic experiences? These symptoms can keep you from enjoying the type of life you want, and luckily you can remedy them. I will support you as you explore, challenge and alter these symptoms.

It's undeniable that life is hard. It's filled with difficulties that we don't always know how to navigate and that make us feel stuck. Another undeniable truth is that there's help + support along the way, and it's possible to feel unstuck. I view therapy as a journey helping you find healing and solutions to your struggles within yourself. My mission as a therapist is to help Black and racialized people navigate life's challenges and uncertainties with more understanding, acceptance, flexibility, and resilience—whether you're dealing with family, romantic relationships, work/school, friendships, or your relationship with yourself.

I use cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and mindfulness to treat OCD, depression, and anxiety disorders including generalized anxiety, panic, phobias, and social anxiety.
If you find that you struggle with worry, anxiety, low mood, perfectionism, or obsessions and compulsions, we can work together to help ease some of these painful experiences, improve coping, and help you create a more fulfilling life. I work with adults and adolescents, providing them with a warm, empathic, nonjudgmental space so that they can work to understand their experiences, learn and practice new skills, improve symptoms, cope with stressors, and nurture what is important in their lives.

I use an integrative approach with CBT and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
I will be there for you, to understand you and give you lots of room for whatever comes up. I work with people who have experienced trauma, pain, and are struggling to make meaning. If you wonder whether your therapist is going to be able to hold space for everything you're bringing, I'm a good fit for you. Whether it's anger, shame, hopelessness, thoughts of death, or things you never told anyone, I will be there and I can help you hold it. I believe in the inherent dignity of all people, and it shows. I am also solution-focused. We do not just sit with pain, we figure out how to make meaning together, so you can live well again.

I use a range of different therapies and have training in Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Narrative Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
My work is guided by curiosity, connection and is rooted in values of authentic collaboration. My therapeutic foundations are rooted within relational, client-directed, strengths perspective, trauma-informed, feminist and structural frameworks. With a deep sense of compassion and respect, I seek to create a warm, safe, and non-judgmental space that facilitates self-awareness, healing and growth. Together, we can begin to tease apart the adaptive approaches to dealing with and moving through life you've grown accustomed to, and begin to untangle patterns that are serving you, and patterns you may be interested in moving beyond.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Counsellors

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
