I draw from trauma-informed training, mindfulness teachings (includes CBT/DBT/ACT), somatic practices, harm reduction principles, attachment theory, and internal family systems concepts to guide my work.
Let's start by being human together, and acknowledge the difficulties of being human in this modern world. We might begin to feel less-than human when we are worn down, let down, rejected, or taken for granted. The heart, body, mind, and spirit suffer in response. I want to support you to feel more human, more alive and aligned with the life you want, and more capable of showing up for yourself and others. But more than that, I want to support you to feel accepted and connected, in whatever way you might be experiencing life's challenges.

I work to weave together tools from various modalities, including: DBT, Narrative Therapy, IFS, ACT, etc.
I typically work with those experiencing emotional distress on how to better understand themselves, their emotions, and interpersonal communication. For some it helps to build tools for coping effectively and for others its about having a safe space to feel emotions without judgment. Or perhaps you are someone looking to expand your self-awareness and how you may live your most authentic life. I want to work collaboratively with you - whether that looks like short-term support though a difficult time or developing a long-term therapeutic space to explore (and all the spaces in-between).

We'll work from multiple points of view—depth-oriented and solution focused—in order to best support your process of healing, self-development, radical acceptance, and growth.
By addressing troubling thoughts and feelings, self-sabotaging behaviors, and traumas, life can be made more manageable, productive, and fulfilling. Feelings such as grief, shame, anxiety, sadness, and anger often signal that something needs to change. Listening to and working with these feelings—some that consume us and others that gently nudge us—can move us forward. Through this, we sometimes discover that our everyday dilemmas are part of larger patterns waiting to be resolved as a whole.

I tailor therapeutic modalities and techniques for your unique needs to help you find self-acceptance, empowerment, and inner peace.
As a therapist, I believe that providing clients with a nonjudgmental, supportive, and safe environment encourages self-awareness, self-exploration, and self-compassion while working together as a team when exploring their life challenges. As a bicultural woman, mother, and wife, I find managing too many roles and responsibilities challenging, which can lead to mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, stress, and low self-esteem. I can assist you in navigating these challenges while remaining focused and engaged, working towards and achieving your life goals and authentic self.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Counsellors

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
