I am trained in CBT, DBT, ACT, Gottman Method Couples Therapy, and I work from a trauma informed lens.
Whether you are struggling with stress, anxiety, relationship issues, or personal transitions, you seek a space where you can express yourself openly and without judgement. While I would like to say I am committed to creating a safe space for folks, I also recognize that there are very few, if any, spaces deemed safe for those we work with, therefore, I aim to provide a space that is open, transparent, and non-judgmental. You have already done the hardest part. Now, together, we can begin to explore new perspectives, develop coping skills, and achieve the goals that matter most to you!

I use evidence-based counselling techniques and treatment plans with my therapy consisting of Cognitive Behavioral Therapies, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Narrative Therapy and Trauma Informed Care.
In developing a safe and respectful environment, I strive to help clients feel comfortable to start the journey of recovery from addiction, anxiety, depression, PTSD, and/or anger. I understand the journey of recovery from substance use disorders is not easy but I am here to support clients towards their goals. I also understand life transitions of individuals, especially athletes and how mental health is a large component of an athlete's identity.

At times, we all need support to navigate the challenges and difficulties we face in our lives. My counselling approach is rooted in the belief that understanding our experiences, our story, and ourselves can be a transformative journey towards greater self-acceptance and hope for the future. I recognize that our challenges are often a reflection of what we have been through in the past, shaping our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. As we gain perspective and compassion for ourselves, we are empowered to develop healthier coping strategies, heal from past wounds, and embark on a path towards personal growth and fulfillment.

As a Child Therapist, I appreciate the resiliency within each child, teen, and young adult I work with. They have many of the qualities to cope with day-to-day life and stressors.. it's my role to help identify, celebrate, and strengthen the ones they have and introduce new ones that could help. Whether the goal is to help youth with ADHD (or ADHD characteristics), anxiety, emotional regulation, or trauma, I can help both young people and their families navigate their unique pathways to wellbeing and good mental health. Step by step along your own path, I'll walk with you while you need some extra support.

Hi, I'm Ashley (she/her) and I'm a clinical social worker and therapist, offering virtual and in-person counselling sessions for adults and couples. One of the most difficult decisions can be reaching out for supports - this underlying anxiety and stress for potential clients helps inform and shape my practice whereby my focus is working to create a warm, welcoming and calm space for individuals and couples to share their experiences, challenges and hopes in a safe space.

Giving some prior thought about your expectations for counselling is helpful, especially the roles for helper and client and their working alliance, and your goals for the process. It's important to choose a counsellor that best fits you. I see my role as 'on your team', yet not the manager or coach. You are the expert on you. I prefer a ‘level playing field’, so I endeavour to keep things open and transparent as possible. Since I think you already possess skills and strategies to tackle challenges ahead, our work together is about uncovering strengths, strategies and making a game plan together so 'wins' are truly yours.

Hello ! I’m Hannah Sparkes with Spark Your Growth. Seeking support can be hard so I appreciate you taking time to view my profile and see if I am a suitable fit for you! I work with clients to help heal trauma, develop self-confidence, cope with life’s stressors, build stronger relationships, regulate anxiety and stress, overcome addiction and achieve a life you want to live, amongst other things. Given that each person is unique, I understand there is no one-size fits all when it comes to therapy. I use a combination of cognitive and somatic therapies to create an approach that will meet each individual's needs and interests.

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
