I believe that positive change starts with healthy individuals who then form healthy relationships and establish positive child-parent connections.
To me, the therapeutic relationship is an essential starting place for positive growth. Therapy is a space to be received and welcomed, a space where we can look at life’s challenges with a compassionate eye so that we may be curious about what changes might make life more enjoyable.

You are feeling overwhelmed by what seems like everything. Most days just seem heavy. You just want to feel like yourself again: calmer, happier, better regulated. You feel like all the relationships in your life both professional and personal seem like too much work. You want to run away but know you will not because you are dependable; everyone looks to you solve the problems at hand. " But what about me?" you wonder. Who is taking care of me? All you want is to have someone that will let you clear your head space without judgement.

There are many times when life becomes more than we are able to handle. Sometimes life breaks us and leaves us feeling lost and alone. Other moments we feel like we are stumbling along in the dark, searching for meaning and direction, or just wishing we felt less pain. Finding a way back can be easier if another person shares some of the journey. A genuine and safe therapeutic relationship can be the starting place for rediscovering inner resources, developing new coping skills, and rekindling hope.

Do you feel constantly overwhelmed by the pressure to get it right? Whether you are a new parent navigating the identity quake of motherhood or a cycle-breaker trying to heal old family patterns, the anxiety can be exhausting. You might feel like you are failing to meet everyone’s standards—your culture’s, your parents’, or society’s. You want to feel confident and joyful, but instead, you are stuck in self-doubt, guilt, and a constant fear of repeating the past. You don't have to keep performing wellness while crumbling inside.

Whether it's a child, youth or adult, I know that we all struggle between the expectations of others and connecting into our own desire for balance within our self-- emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually.
Therapy helps to clarify where you are and what you want and often that means looking at where you have been. To come into yourself, without the confusion of mixed-feelings and problematic relationships is one of the most powerful things you can do. To do this, I use evidence-based theories and methods, including EMDR, Brene Brown's work.

My experience includes working with adults, couples, youth and children.
Life presents us with experiences that profoundly shape who we are. At times these experiences may leave us feeling overwhelmed, lost and uncertain. Therapy provides an opportunity for self-awareness, self-compassion and empowerment, where we can change and grow. In the last 15+ years I have had the privilege of walking alongside clients who are seeking change or struggling with stress, burnout, grief, anxiety, depression, boundaries, life transitions, trauma, relationship struggles, distress or emotional dysregulation. I aim to create a space where we can explore these struggles or wish for change, together.

FAQ - About Child Therapy
When does a child need to see a therapist?
Children naturally experience emotional ups and downs. Sometimes, though, they need support from a professional. A child may benefit from therapy if their emotions or behaviours change significantly within a short period of time. For example, if a child usually spends time with friends after school but begins isolating in their room, further inquiry is warranted. Other areas for concern include altered sleep patterns, lack of appetite, intense anger, irritability, or hopelessness, or developmental regression in young children (bedwetting, thumb-sucking).

What can a child therapist help with?
A therapist can help with any difficult experience a child may encounter growing up, including learning problems or anxiety related to school, relationship challenges with friends or parents, bullying, intense emotions or phobias, divorce and family dynamics, or the death of a pet or loved one. A therapist can help children process their experience and develop coping skills in an age-appropriate way

What therapy types are most suitable for children?
Children can benefit from different forms of therapy, including family therapy, parent-child interaction therapy, play therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, and exposure therapy, depending on their condition. Play therapy is a great option for younger children who may not be able to fully articulate their feelings. In this approach, kids play with toys and games while a therapist observes and helps the child express their emotions and develop coping skills.

Do I need to attend therapy with my child?
Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.

How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?
A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
